I hope so.
If the baby doesn’t make it which country will they choose? Which black congressWOMAN will say “If the kids wasn’t white...”
That’s a bill of attainder. Unconstitutional.
I’m sorry. This is a terrible precedent. Are we prepared to bring everyone here with issues that Britain refuses to pay for, make them citizens and pay for their healthcare? REALLY. I feel for this family, but I have a feeling there are many more Charlie Gards who will come out of the woodwork. If a private organization wants to bring them over and pay for them, I’ll donate money. But having the government do it and granting them citizenship. NO. NO NO NO.
Bill of attainder: “A legislative act, directed against a designated person, pronouncing him guilty of an alleged crime, (usually treason,) without trial or conviction according to the recognized rules of procedure, and passing sentence of death and attainder upon him.” http://thelawdictionary.org/bill-of-attainder/
This is not a bill of attainder.
Their concern is admirable. But this is very unconstitutional. And not only sets horrible precedent, it reinforces current precedent. This is more or less the same rationale that the Dems have been using for “refugees” from Syria and “immigrants” from Mexico.
YES, YES, YES, YES.
The ANSWER is DESOCIALIZE healthcare in the U.S. and put it where it belongs - in the free market.
How so?
I agree. Help the kid, but don’t make them all Instant Citizens! That’s insanity, considering what we’re already faced with as far as illegals go.
Change it up a bit; 0bama does this for ‘Clock Boy’ and his family, or another of his terrorist ‘friends’ who is ‘terminal,’ such as a suicide bomber. *SNORT*
NO, NO, NO, NO...and one more, NO!
Being an American Citizen didn’t save Terri Schaivo’s life!
There’s no medical directive here which drove the Schaivo case. A completely different situation. A hospital is already to receive the baby for treatment.
A permanent resident is not a citizen.
Nonsense.
Unconstitutional and it opens up a can of worms bigger than Texas.
This is an exceptional, extraordinary circumstance that does warrant such compassion. I don’t believe this will set any kind of precedent for common causes, but in light of how intense this matter is I believe it just.
Good point.
Anyway, I hope they get that baby out of there and over here quickly.
How so?
How about if we granted them asylum?
It is as I define bill of attainder under the Constitution, Jiminy Cricket.
Asylum can be granted without legislative action, Sparky. What’s your question?
Very, very bad idea......use their own money not taxpayers.
