Authorities in Florida say a man hid his wife's body in a freezer so he could continue collecting her Social Security benefits.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says, Margaret Dunn died at her home in Sun City Center, Fla. in 2002 and Allan Dunn placed her body in the freezer. He then collected her Social Security benefits until he died in 2010.
In all, he improperly collected $92,088 in federal Social Security benefits.
According to authorities, upon his death, Mr. Dunn’s sole asset of value was the condominium unit where he and his wife had resided. His heirs, who were unaware that he had concealed his wife’s death, agreed to waive their rights to inherit the condominium and to sell it.

His heirs didn’t know his wife had died?? So nobody in their lives ever said , gee, haven’t heard from her in a while, wonder how she’s doing, let’s contact her?? Did they ever talk to him and then did he say she was fine ??
I know some people stick to themselves and don’t go out or visit people, but still sounds odd.

Yep, another Benefit of Absentee Ballots and Early Voting.
Reminds me of an episode of Joe Kenda Homicide Hunter. Two black sisters were living with each other and on Social Security. One died and she was wrapped in newspapers and left on the couch with a sheet like cover. The other sister continued to receive both Social Security checks.

There are probably freezers full all over the United States. Maybe the state of Illinois needs to go door to door looking for “cold cash”.
Nice of him to cash it for her. It would have been hard for her to get out.
It’s sad the number of people that fall into the government dependence trap and only have social security at retirement. I know several here in Thailand that social security is their only income.

Just before he checked out, he should have gotten a reverse mortgage on the condo, would have loved to seen that fight between the mortgage holder and the IRS.
What is wrong with this stupid county? A huge clue should have been the fact that she didn’t go to the doctor in 8 years. How many seniors could live without a blood test or meds that long?

Really? You want the government notified every time you go to the doctor? BTW, my mother died recently at the age of 92. Except for the last 6 months, she rarely went to the doctor, she didn’t get sick.
