Sen. Ted Cruz wants Senate repeal legislation to allow cheaper ‘junk insurance’

A proposal by Sen. Ted Cruz to let insurers provide less comprehensive coverage under the Senate health care bill could lead to an explosion of limited-benefit “junk insurance” in states that weaken consumer protections in the Affordable Care Act.

Junk insurance can include specified disease plans that cover only certain diseases; supplemental plans that cover only the expenses another policy doesn’t; and fixed-dollar indemnity plans that provide a specified amount per day toward medical costs.

The Congressional Budget Office considers people with these policies to be uninsured “because they do not have financial protection from major medical risks.”

Before the Affordable Care Act, consumers buying health coverage outside the workplace faced a minefield of low-quality insurance with gaping coverage exclusions and benefit limits designed to protect insurers against costly medical conditions.

The ACA pushed that coverage to the margins by requiring individual plans to cover ten “essential health benefits,” including maternity care, mental health services and prescription drugs.....

I love how when some doofus who’s never had a real job (Ebola) tells me what to do and punishes me for doing otherwise, that’s “consumer protection”. Assholes.

Only a junk newspaper would call actual insurance to insure against exactly what you want to insure “junk”.

Watch this become the new meme. Anything to prevent a free people from exercising their freedom.

Why does anyone think government will pick a better plan for their family? Are they insane? People are getting worse plans at 4 times the cost.

Let the products sell themselves.
No One needs the Gov telling them what to buy.

To the idiot that wrote this article:

Under ObolaCare, I'm now paying three times as much for a deductible that is four times larger, with WAY less coverage than I had with my "junk insurance" policy.

Up yours snotweasel.

Tony Pugh needs to find another line of work. Clearly, being a reporter is beyond his abilities.

Ironic that it used to be that folks would get catastrophic insurance and pay for regular care which was affordable. Then, the government started insisting that every smallest possibility be covered by insurance and the cost skyrocketed. Now folks want to be able to but insurance for the things that were once too small to worry about insurance for....

Call me sexist, but, being a man, I have never had a need for maternity or abortion coverage on my insurance. Why can’t I just get insurance that fits my lifestyle? Talk about junk.

Junk Insurance? Not at all. Junk Journalism? For sure! One man’s “junk” automobile is a limousine to someone with no car at all.

Obama’s “essential health benefits” includes prenatal care for men and prostrate coverage for women. It’s a primary reason for Obamacare being in a death spiral.

Prior to the Kenyan these plans we known as catastrophic coverage, which fit the needs of millions of Americans.
