My understanding is that he's been indicted for falsifying details regarding the incident, rather than for the incident itself -- plus, IIRC it was Washington State LEs, not FBI, who shot him.

I get why the ranchers were doing what they were doing, but driving away from police, and then jumping out of the vehicle and running around...Not great ideas.

Yes, they were scared and being shot at, yes Finicum exited the vehicle probably to prevent everyone else in it from being hit, yes the snow was deep and tripped his balance...But nonetheless, nothing that happened contributed anything towards making the law enforcement less nervous.

The unidentified masked guys at the first stop got cute and tried to fire a teargas round into the open truck window.

Law enforcement started it, and is responsible for the entire chain of events.
