What Makes A Summer Jam?
What Makes A Summer Jam? ^ | June 24, 2017 | Narzra Ahmed

With the British heatwave currently underway, people are playing summer tunes at barbecues, blasting them out of their cars, etc. It’s got me thinking…just what makes a summer jam? What do you think of when you think of a summer jam? I think of beaches, Virgin mojitos in the sunshine and general good times. The song 'Summer Jam' by The Underdog Project also comes to mind for obvious reasons.

I feel like dissecting the components of a summer jam to see what they are made up of. Firstly, an upbeat, catchy tune is really important. They usually include repetitive beats too. Next up, the words have to be catchy. A memorable chorus is a must.

Internet radio tied to the stereo system blasting heavy metal with no ads or interruptions. The 22-inch Weber fueled, fired, and ready - the wonderful smoke wafting on the breeze. The brats, dogs, and burgers prepped and ready, as are the condiments and buns. The iced coffee (Thai-style) is ready in the pitcher.

No beach ... the bayous are a half mile down the road, and down the hill, as are the resident 7-foot ‘gators.

After ‘Katrina’, I gladly live upstate, uphill, and dry.

Expand your horizons dude. There's so much new great music right now.

How about instead of those tired, moldy Zeppelin songs that we've heard million times, check out Rival Sons. And instead of "Skinard" (that reminds everyone of the hazards of air travel) give Whiskey Myers a listen.

Jimmy Page doesn't need your money and Skynyrd are all dead. These new guys could sure use the support.

This Afternoon by Nickelback reminds me of a summer day way back in my youth, before kids and adult responsibilities.

I know it’s Spring when I hear The Boys Are Back In Town. I swear they save that one and a few others to herald summer.

There was a “Summer Jam” back in 1974 at the Charlotte motor speedway outside Lexington NC.

I don’t remember much about it (Even the date), it was about two nights of party. Anyway, ELP, Allman Brothers, Skynard, and other great groups. Marshall Tucker, ...

Oh, and about 450,000 people showed up.

Whiskey Myers is good stuff so is Stapleton. I like the LZ and Skynyrd classics too — anything but hick pop and bruh country....
