Liberals define themselves as love, tolerance, smart, rational, educated. They think everything in the world is solved by people converting to their ideology, like Muslims. They measure all morality by the spread and strengthening of the ideology, like Muslims. Where they differ is the rules governing society, source of morality and social hierarchy.
The problem liberals are having is that they define themselves as love and assume anyone else is an evil hater. But Muslims are treated as poor helpless, innocent victims of evil white oppressors. (Ignoring all of history like Islam’s brutal conquest of India) Their solution is saying it is their fault for not being loving enough, giving enough, you poor babies, we’ll be even more loving, tolerant, never stop you or criticize you. You’re mad, it is our fault - and they’re stuck in the deliberately enabling abuse victim who defends the abuser’s reputation and blames themselves.
Dr. Jordan Peterson describing liberalism and SJWs in particular as suffering from an excess of empathy is particularly apt.
And when you define the world into protective mothers and helpless babies, you not only infantalize those “protected” groups but ferociously defend them. Hence liberals showing up at vigils for people killed by Muslim terrorists saying “don’t blame Muslims”.
They get a moral boost from it immediately, they think they’ll eventually improve their power in society from newly loyal followers.
There is also the liberals regularly using Muslims to attack Christianity in the public sphere, enjoying being able to say “I’m not anti-religion, this just isn’t acceptable, see, this Muslim monotheist agrees with me the X has to go”.
