So we should just automatically support Trump, no matter what he does? I’m sorry, but like any leader, he makes occasional mistakes. When he does, the policy doesn’t merit our support.

During the election there was 2 types of Republicans: Those who wanted Hillary Clinton to lose and those who want wanted her to win. The second group is the ones who prattle on about principles, ideas, and policies while they tried to hand the country over to the witch. The first group supports Trump because he fights, he implements conservative ideas, and to attack him only aids wacoadoodle left destroying in first Trump then us.

I am fed up with these talking/writing mouth pieces claiming to know what makes a Trump supporter... As simply as I can say it, Trump represents ‘we the people’... a NON-professional politician. When I first heard Trump was running, I thought it was a ‘joke’... because I did not know that much about him... but after I watched that early 2015 rally in Arizona, and Trump turned his stage over to the surviving relatives of lying Ryan's and Obama’s illegals, I have been in support of Trump.

Wrong. NOBODY wanted Hillary to win. That is simply mythology.

But there were and are conservatives who believed that Donald Trump was not one of us and was about as deserving of our support as Jeb or Rubio.

In any event, the election is over. Trump is the president of the Always Trumpers, the Reluctant Trumpers, and the Never Trumpers. All of us wish him well.

But it’s not about stopping the Democrats. Check that one off your list. He’s not running against Hitlery anymore. It’s about what he does (or doesn’t do) as President.

Some of what he has done is good; some of it is not so good. We should stand on principles and support our president when he is right and oppose him when he is wrong — neither blindly opposing nor blindly supporting everything he does.

That’s a load of horse crap. The entire GOP was working against Trump and a bunch of so called conservatives were as well.

Actually it’s about stop the deep state and forcing those rat bastard RINOs in congress to actually pass Trump’s agenda. The wall must be built. The regulatory system reformed. And Obamacare destroyed. This won’t happen till we take the screws the GOPe and the deep state.

Well, there are the Establishment Republicans and the deplorables. Part of drain the swamp includes the the ERs. So fight on deplorables, cause the ERs be fighting back and are either owned by the dems or stupid.

#Never Trumper are not being critical because they think they have better ideas, they are racing around depsertly finding every possible excuse to have another hysteric hissy fit.

THIS is a prime example of who “Movement Conservatives” have been the most politically ineffective group in US Political history. They are not interested in accomplishing things, they just what to sit on their asses and endlessly bitch that not every thing is being done exactly the way they think it should be done.

Want to control the agenda? That start WINNING elections. But “Movement Conservatives” are too politically incompetent to do that.

Stand for principals means advancing your agenda. Childish temper tantrums because not everything is done exactly the way you think it should be is not PRINCIPAL it is PETULANCE.

Actually, they do. His most conservative critics especially. They believe that Trump is insufficiently committed to the principles of limited government and constitutionalism.

One may disagree with that, but it's a substantive criticism based in principle. I can respect that.

What I cannot respect are the Establishment RINOs who simply think Trump is bad because he's not one of them, and he threatens their power base. Sorry, boys, that's what he's there for.

They are not interested in accomplishing things, they just what to sit on their asses and endlessly bitch that not every thing is being done exactly the way they think it should be done.

As someone who has grown up in the conservative movement, I can tell you that you're completely wrong on that. But it accomplishes nothing to keep supporting "moderate" Republicans. They'll talk nicely, but sell us out about as much as liberal Democrats will.

The conservative movement is interested in advancing the principles of limited government and the ideas of liberty. To the extent that someone advances those principles, he (or she) gets full support from the movement. To the extent that that person does NOT do so, the movement will oppose him or her. That was true even of President Reagan. who occasionally met with opposition even from the likes of Young Americans for Freedom.

Want to control the agenda? That start WINNING elections.

What does it get us to win elections for those who will not defend and support our principles? What does it get us to elect "progressives" who have an R after their name?

I find it very odd that a FReeper has such contempt for conservatives.
