LOS ANGELES Dodgers Hall of Famer Tommy Lasorda has been hospitalized for several days.
Details of Lasordas illness are being kept private, but a number of Lasordas former players have been among those in contact with Lasorda, who has been in the intensive care unit at a Los Angeles hospital. Lasorda, 89, has a history of heart problems and was hospitalized following a heart attack as recently as 2012.
Lasorda has been hospitalized multiple times in the past year, including after a fall while attending a memorabilia show in Atlantic City last August and then again for 10 days with multiple issues in October. But he was released in time to attend Game 3 of the National League Championship Series between the Dodgers and Chicago Cubs at Dodger Stadium, where he received his usual ovation when introduced to the crowd.

As a young man, I was with a group that met Tommy Lasagna over the Dugout in Dodgers Stadium. He saw that some of us were rooting for the other team. He pointed a ‘shame on you’ finger at us and told us if we weren’t Dodger’s fans, we might not get into Heaven.
What a great guy he is. Prayers for his health!
I didn’t know he was still alive.
Please ping me with any Southern California related articles. Thank you!

LaSorda was sent down by Brooklyn to bring up Koufax. If your gonna be replaced...
A friend of mine was a bat bot for the AAA Phoenix Giants and various MLB spring training teams in the mid, late 1960s.
He tells the story of being batboy for the visiting Dodgers one game. It was in the last inning with the Dodgers way ahead and he started putting away the gear to get a jump on it and get it done. Lasorda saw him and started cursing and sputtering at him that he was gonna jinx them. Startled him good. A little while later he said Lasorda came back up to him and kind of laughed and patted him on the shoulder saying: “Kid, we’re pretty superstitious in this game.”
Walter Alston and Tommy LaSorda - the Dodgers had only two managers in 43 seasons.
Prayers for Mr. Lasorda.
LaSorda was asked once about his epitaph to which he replied:
“Dodger Stadium was my address but every ballpark was my home.”
Quick, someone send him some baked manicotti from St. Louis...if he’s going to go out let him go out happy...
I’m anything but a Dodger fan, but everyone likes Tommy Lasorda. All the best to Tommy and his family.
He’s 89! Wow
He didn’t look good last time saw on tv. Then again, he always looked a little ill after he retired.
Prayers..
Tommy might hold an amazing record. I see he pitched 96 games in AAA ball from 1950 - 1954 and won 66 of them, a 687 winning percentage. Outstanding! Yet the best he could do in the majors is 1 save with no wins. Incredible.
As a Reds fan I always hated the Dodgers but couldn’t help but like Lasorda.
One tough Italian. Him and Billy Martin. Anybody that followed MLB in the 1950’s knows exactly what event between them I’m referring to. Later, best pals and faced off in the ‘77 World series. Reggie, with 3 bombs in game six, damn near sent Tommy over the edge. Then in ‘78, Tommy had to eat the Bomber’s win again over his Dodgers again!!! Revenge was sweet tho for the Dodgers and Tommy in the strike shortened ‘81 season!!! Bombers beat in six!
Dittos to that! I still can’t believe The Big Red Machine didn’t haul in the Dodgers in ‘74 pennant race! It was their year I guess. (I lost a LOT of money to a good friend betting that they would that long summer! (Got it ALL back tho when the Oakland Athletics DESTROYED Dodger ‘Blue’ in the series!
I’ve seen some people do pretty well through their 70’s, but once past 80, the decline shows.
LOL! LMAO! That is so good!
After watching that one, I guess his telling some of our group we might not get into Heaven for not being Dodger’s fans was his polite way of saying to them ‘Go to f*ckin hell!’.
Love the man nevertheless. A time when America was so great.
You mean the “banana nose” game?
