The Trump administration has completed its first border wall thanks to a budget approved last year by President Obama.
Started in January just before President Trump moved into the White House, the 7-and-a-half mile fence was planned four years ago and spans across the international border near Naco, Arizona.
White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer applauded its construction last week and promised similar structures in the future.
He is using the current bill to get his priorities moving and put it down. To answer the question: It is currently being built in Naco, Arizona; Sunland Park, New Mexico; and we are going to be starting to do this in San Diego; El Paso; and Rio Grande Valley, Spicer said in a press briefing.
While the current wall differs from the massive barrier Trump repeatedly promised in campaign rallies during the election, the new wall is a considerable upgrade from the chain-link fence that once sat there.
According to Spicer, Department of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly concurred with the president that a wall is the most effective way to keep people out, to stop drugs, to stop cartels, to stop human trafficking, and to prevent illegal immigration.
Post guards and shoot crossers on sight. Illegal crossing stops very very quickly.
I remember how candidate Trump used to fire up rally crowds with repeated promises to put up seven miles of fencing improvements planned under the Obama administration. Those were exciting times!
A fence is eight feet high and a wall is 50 feet high!
They are replacing a 9 ft tall chain link fence with a welded 20ft tall barrier shown in the pic above.
Was expecting that at a minimum.
I always said put in a mine field instead of a wall and it would be more effective and cheaper. the only problem is that we don’t have the stomach or it.
“While the current wall differs from the massive barrier Trump repeatedly promised in campaign rallies during the election, the new wall is a considerable upgrade from the chain-link fence that once sat there. “ So, how useful is it?
It’s useful. It is just ridiculously short. At this rate, Trump will need 50 years in office to finish the promised wall along the border with narcostate murderland Mexico.
I think of it as a process. An ongoing and never really finished process.
I get your point but the fact is the terrain has a lot to do with where they try to cross so in some areas 7 miles long may be 25 or even 50 miles possibly longer because the terrain itself prevents crossing in some sections.
Half the battle is won simply by having a President with the will and desire to both secure the border lawfully and with barriers. It's a process. Assuming 8 years in office; President Trump will have a sturdy legacy of both to his name. Of course some leftist putz coming into office after him could screw it all up but that's the price of democracy I guess.
Even a fence can be very effective when done right.
On the border between South and North Korea and on river banks, etc., there is a double row of chain link fences, topped with razor wire. There are guard posts and lights. On freeway bridges, razor wire is wrapped around the supports to keep anyone from climbing the column and reaching the road surface from underneath.
It is ugly as anything, but it seems to serve the purpose of keeping the North Koreans out of South Korea. If North Koreans want to defect, they have to go through China.
What we know about DJT is his commitment to absolute quality. Every project he has completed has been of the highest possible quality. THAT is his life’s work. I am looking forward to seeing the newly approved designs for THE WALL.
The real fight is the incentives though. If people cannot find a good reason to come in, they likely will not come in.
That’s right, it makes the most sense initially; a two prong simultaneous approach, build the wall while at the same time cut off all support mechanisms to criminal illegal alien invaders.
I think the support money saved is more than enough to build the entire wall with plenty left over to maintain the wall for many years to come.
What happened was Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell & Chuck Schumer.
The President gets more cooperation from the President of China than he does from that bunch of hacks.
“Post guards and shoot crossers on sight. Illegal crossing stops very very quickly.”
Absolutely, that would work. But the people making the political calls, the media and the people who would apply “human rights” pressure have no skin in the game. The people affected by carjacking’s, drug gangs and hundreds of people illegally crossing their land, their pain is too remote and non-photogenic to count. Therefore their rights don’t count.
If store owners were allowed to shoot people trying to loot their businesses there would be no “let them let off their steam” riots. Today police only try to control rioters so they only destroy the property of little people, like Korean grocers and Indian owned Stop-n-Saves.
