Laura Ingraham as White House Communications Director?
Self | 12 May 2017 | Self

Posted on 05/12/2017 7:53:32 AM PDT by relictele

After numerous days away from the radio in April due to Lent and Easter holidays, Laura Ingraham has missed her show Thu 11 May and Fri 12 May.

She has been the subject of endless speculation and matchmaking - including remarks by Ingraham herself - about a role in Trump's White House staff. In the immediate aftermath of the Inauguration it was an open secret that she was a possible choice for White House Press Secretary (ie Sean Spicer's job). But she returned to the radio fold and has been giving support and advice as she did before the election.

Avid Ingraham listeners will have noted her frustration with the usual combative leftist media and their daily truckload of falsehoods but also with Trump administration figures - including the president himself - with their random, uncoordinated and often contradictory statements and positions on key issues. She allows that their hearts are in the right place but, as she often says, an absence of a 'unifying message' hinders their ability to fend off press attacks and, perhaps more consequentially, may confuse or dishearten stalwart Trump supporters with very long memories and very sensitive antennae who may perceive these mixed messages as the beginnings of backsliding by the Trump White House where key issues and initiatives are concerned.

And so, while Ingraham's interest in daily log-rolling with the corrupt media has waned, her interest in wrangling all Trump's people into using and selling the aforementioned unifying message has increased greatly. She has expressed, mostly in hypothetical terms, the what/why/how a Communications Director would operate.

It doesn't take a leap of logic to assume that someone, possibly Trump himself, has been listening or has been told second-hand about Ingraham's professed strategy and desire to get everyone's mind right and that amidst the chaos of this ridiculous Russian snipe hunt some order must be restored.

Trump fans and fans of truth in general may not want a return to the bad old days of talking points and numbing repetition of catchphrases from every White House official but it's also obvious that the media's death-by-a-thousand-cuts campaign must be blunted.

Ingraham may have also balked at Press Secretary duties that would have involved significant travel, much of it on short notice, as she has three young children. A White House role with little or no travel and (mostly) reasonable daytime hours would be ideal as she is already a DC local.

Unlike the egomaniacal Obama, Trump is unafraid of those who might challenge him by offering alternative viewpoints.

As Rush Limbaugh's show winds down, encumbered by his fascination with and maddening repetition of His Own Greatest Hits (Ted Kennedy and John Kerry stories, anyone?) the end of Laura's radio show would be a great loss for many listeners but perhaps worth it given the stakes.

Even her show has lost its way a bit since the unexpected triumph of Nov 8 ie the dog finally chased down the car. Her absences are already distressingly frequent and her guest hosts are nothing short of appalling. John Hinderaker may be a brilliant lawyer equally brilliant at picking apart the illogical of the left but his sing-song Mr Rogers delivery is unbearable especially over three hours. The bloke hosting today has the tone and the enthusiasm of Eeyore. Even regular, if unofficial, co-host Raymond Arroyo is unsuited to the task, not least because he's joined Limbaugh in the stultifying kiddie book infomercial game.

In sum, the timing and circumstances could not be more conducive to Ingraham's proposed vision and methodology. As a longtime professional communicator she would be adept at allowing all to have their say while controlling the overall message. Ingraham is very aware of the unusual complication of Trump's daughter and son-in-law having such outsized roles and would no doubt tread lightly - but she would tread regardless.

It’s clear the president is being poorly served by his amateurish staff. It’s embarrassing how bad his team is.

I’m starting to think Laura is not going to be taking any official position with the Trump Administration. Like many other media figures; Sean Hannity, Newt Gingrich, Rudy Guliani, Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee; Laura may decide to keep doing what she has been doing.

Very nice post. Your 3rd paragraph summarizes my views perfectly.

Could Laura Ingraham fix the problems?

Maybe she could. In any case I think we have not seen the last of personnel changes with the White House staff. OTOH I like Spicer. I like his feisty style.

Sarah is doing a good job, better than Spicer. She is not telegenic--maybe transitioning from young to old? Okay, my personal opinion as I'm fine listening to her but don't like seeing her. Spicer is combative in a not helpful way, yes, let him go do something else with his time.

Laura, she should have been in the White House from day one. Trump needs people where have brains, think on their feet, know how to be and shows loyalty. Keep Sarah where she is. Maybe put Laura as second spokesperson to represent him outside the White House, such as on the TV and Radio.

"Laura Ingraham has missed her show Thu 11 May and Fri 12 May."

Surgery for that nagging foot(?) injury she kept talking about?

Anyway I saw "Sarah's" press conference yesterday, and I don't get the detractors in the conservative relm, I thought she rocked it.

Laura @ the WH? The pay cut, the kids, being a mom etc etc man that surely is a fork in the road for her if she does, I am not sure all the issues could be addressed to get her behind the podium...

If she does? Best Press Secretary Evah she is a take no prisoner B.S. kind of gal and it would be time to buy stock in popcorn companies, man to see her beetoch slap half the defuses in the press-core on the daily basis would be must see TV...

She’s taken breaks before. It’s the leftovers from the Obama Admin who are leaking.

Could Laura Ingraham fix the problems?

She could probably improve the messaging but its hard to do that when Trump himself is tweeting away on all manner of things. The communications job would be easier and more effective if he would reduce the tweeting and just focus on doing things that speak louder than words (e.g. visiting VA clinics, going to coal mines, meeting with with business leaders, etc). Actions and activities are the best forms of messaging. The DC Swamp is engulfing him. He needs to get out of Washington and go straight to the people who elected him. Just my humble opinion.

Regarding looks, with a little makeover (with suggestion from Melania?), Sarah would be fine. But looks are just secondary here. She is doing an excellent job.

OMG NO!

Let Trump be Trump not Laura.

The good old days of talking points???????

NO! The era of Trump Tweets is here to stay.

STOP trying to make Trump into George W Bush, PLEASE!

The Trump presidency is a new paradigm. It’s just what we need, NOT business as usual with just a little tweeking.

Just to clarify: the role she & I both discussed is Communications Director not Press Secretary. In other words, background not foreground.

I disagree, she likes to be liked too much. Her show has times where she is just so wishy-washy.

I love Spicer.

She’s good. Knows how much to say and when to stop talking. When you’re ‘splaining you’re on defense. Keep it short and concise. Less is more. Spicer is sharp but he drones on too much. Don’t let the so-called media drag you down their hole. That’s what they want.

Spicer is such a moron. I would love to see him leave if only to cause Melissa McCarthy to have a nervous breakdown

Sorry as much as I like Ms Ingraham and I do think she’d be good in the White House

But she can’t let her guests finish talking before interrupting

Her and Hannity

It’s a Yankee thing I guess

I find myself yelling at my radio.to both of them....”let the Caller finish”

And her incessant all pot smokers are libtards while at the same time giggling about cocktails or lamenting her hangover strikes me as inconsistent

And her musical taste like O’Reillys is so commercial

And her Catholic stuff is like ....maybe.a little grating...ok we get it

But in spite of that I do listen daily in the tub doing my first morning biz catch up and communicating

I do not think she is superior to Rush in radio but she has more guests which I like

Rush however is in a league of his own

A three hour stream of consciousness monologue

It’s a amazing
