On the evening of April 18, 1775, General Thomas Gage, the British commander in Boston, dispatched a contingent of troops to seize a supply of arms and powder that the colonial insurgents had stored at Lexington and Concord, as well as to arrest two leading patriots, Samuel Adams and John Hancock, who were also hidden in the area.
As every schoolchild knows, Paul Revere's ensuing midnight ride called the local militia to arms, and the battles of Lexington and Concord followed the next day. Largely obscured by the great renown of Longfellow's poem, "Paul Revere's Ride", is the fact that two other men - William Dawes and Dr. Samuel Prescott - also rode that night to spread the alarm. Moreover, it can be argued that Revere was the least successful of the three, because although he and Dawes were both captured by the British, Dawes escaped to arouse Lexington, and then Prescott carried the word to Concord.
For some, the midnight ride conjures images of Paul Revere riding through the night, shouting out, "The British are coming! The British are coming!" But this phrase would have made no sense to the colonists; everyone at that time thought of themselves as British. Instead, Revere spread his message subtly by saying something along the lines of, "The Regulars are coming." The troops were known as Regulars, Redcoats or The King's Men. The troops called the colonists country people, provincials, Yankees, peasants or rebels.

By the rude bridge that arched the flood, Their flag to Aprils breeze unfurled; Here once the embattled farmers stood; And fired the shot heard round the world.

Lexington is now Snowflake Central.
And my fourth great grandfather was there in North Carolina mowing down the Red Coats with his trusty musket. And so began the Greatest Country in the world which the Democrats have been trying to destroy ever since.
Happy Patriots Day Eve

Recessional of the Sons of the American Revolution:
“Until we meet again, let us remember our obligations to our
forefathers who gave us our Constitution, the Bill of Rights,
an independent Supreme Court and a nation of free men.”
Dr. Benjamin Franklin, when asked if we had a republic or a monarchy, replied "A Republic, if you can keep it."
Seems to recollect it was Dawes who published a poem about how the Ten Commandments was basis for our American laws and seems he ought be remembered for that—but is not.
I lived for a number of years in the Lexington/Concord area and drove by the old bridge everyday off of Monument Street. Minuteman Bike Trail is nearby and a great place for dog walking. Today it is a very upscale yuppie enclave.
What he was really saying was “The Democrats and progressives are coming.”
It was even like that back in the 1980’s. I had to drive to Hanscom AFB once a month to pick up supplies when I was at the PAVE PAWS radar station on Otis ANGB on Cape Cod.
I was driving a military 2&1/2 ton truck and some Yuppie cursed me out once for going too slow on Route 2A. I then went even slower.
Dawes's great great great grandson (plus or minus one 'great') was Charles G. Dawes.
Who was:
Composer of a chart topping (#1) 1958 hit melody (It's All In The Game);
Vice POTUS under the great Calvin Coolidge;
and 1925 Nobel Peace Laureate for his post-WW1 reporting on German reparations.
Plus, his grandfather was a Brevet General in the Union Army during the Civil War.
There was another man who rode with Revere...Wentworth Cheswell https://wallbuilders.com/black-patriot-wentworth-cheswell/
It is a great part of American History. Today, it couldn’t happen, the snowflakes would say that they are going to be safe not dangerous...
They summoned the militia? You mean ordinary citizens with guns? But ... what can a bunch of civilians do against an army?
Oh ...
Revere would not have made it to Zsa concord if he hadjt stopped in Medford fpo few pops.
What??
Revere of ckirse nevet would have said “The British are coming” because he and almost all others were British.

Don’t forget The Midnight Ride of Sybil Luddington on April 26.
For later
I once memorized the entire poem. Now, all I can remember is:
Listen my children and you shall hear. Of the midnight ride of a can of beer.
Also something about someone in the middle having sex.
And of course EVERYONE remembers One if by sea, two if by land. /s
On another note, I also memorized “The Charge of the Light Brigade”
I don’t remember it either.
Interesting read!
The article is a clear indication that Sarah Palin was correct and the entire liberal media was incorrect before the historians corrected them for insulting Palin.
