Doctors Prescribe Suppressors for Hearing Protection
Posted on March 28, 2017 by Scott Walker
After years of college, medical school, residency, and practice, youd hope that most doctors would be pretty smart. A group of doctors called Doctors for Responsible Gun Ownership (DRGO) shows just how smart they are in a recent white paper endorsing the use of suppressors to prevent firearm-related hearing loss. Doctors say suppressors are the most effective way to protect hearing from gunfire.
It is going to be a bitter pill for gun critics to swallow. Doctors for Responsible Gun Ownership just published a white paper saying suppressors are the best medicine to prevent hearing loss from the sound of gunfire.
This puts to rest the bogus claim from the Americans for Responsible Solutions that foam earplugs are the best way to protect hearing. That now thoroughly debunked claim, tweeted out as a fact, by the group led by former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, earned three Pinnochios from the Washington Posts Fact Checker column.
Here are the facts straight from the guys in the white coats who actually went to medical school and who are able to draw medical conclusions based upon peer-reviewed scientific evidence.

CAIRs Deputy Hamas Teaches Radical Mosque to Use Guns
Will the next San Bernardino be in Florida? December 21, 2015 Joe Kaufman
Nezar Hamze is a leader in the Hamas-related Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). He is also a Deputy Sheriff in the Broward Sheriffs Office (BSO), in Broward County, Florida. This background has given him the opportunity to exploit his position in law enforcement to assist his Islamist friends in their desire for weapons training. This month, he did so at a Tampa Bay, Florida mosque that partners with designated terrorist organizations.
Second Amendment Victories Continue to Pile Up
Written by Bob Adelmann
The restoration of Second Amendment-protected rights in the states is happening so quickly that its hard to keep up. On Friday, the Georgia legislature sent a bill to Governor Nathan Deal that would allow concealed handguns on public college campuses, with some exceptions built in to appease Deal, who vetoed a similar but stronger measure last year. Jerry Henry, executive director of GeorgiaCarry.org, a pro-gun rights group, was realistic: Its not the bill that we wanted but its the bill we got. It gives [us] a foot in the door. If Deal signs the bill, Georgia would become the 11th state with this kind of campus-carry law.
Georgia legislators also sent to Deals desk a bill that improved a number of the states existing gun laws, including giving individuals moving to the state from reciprocal carry agreement states a 90-day grace period to obtain a Georgia Weapons License (GWL) while continuing to carry legally using their previous states license. That bill also explicitly prohibits any probate judge from suspending, extending, delaying, or avoiding the process of approving a GWL application made by a citizen of the state.

Another little-known fact about hearing protection: none of the muffs nor plugs work as well as advertised. The don’t test on real heads, where bone-conduction is a real noise path.
That’s for sure. I operated heavy equipment and armor for years. I worked range support and we operated dang near everything made since WWII, including enemy platforms.
Many were pretty much straight piped V-8s inside a metal can. There’s a reason they give you bone mikes—it the only way to communicate. There’s nothing that will stop hearing loss at those levels and durations.
DUH, why do you think you are required to wear hearing muffs or ear plugs when you go to the range to practice? If you are dumb enough to shoot in the wild with out ear plugs then you are dumb.
Is ever Military person who goes into battle so equipped?
Hubby has Flight Deck Hearing loss, high frequencies are a thing of the past. And he’s in twin hearing aids.
No one says a word about these to loud boom boxes, car radios damaging the hearing of youths. I can hear my granson’s Xbox through his head set and have to tell him to turn it down as he is destroying his hearing.
My ears were my job for 36 years. Headphones, speakers cranked up. Add in giant air handlers, rack fans, etc. The ringing has abated somewhat since I retired, but even when it’s “quiet” I have that nagging sense of a running faucet in the next room.
For sure not as bad as having your head in the engine compartment of a T-34, but still.
