They would probably try to make it appear that it was just some nut job...like the two women who tried to kill President Ford, the guy who tried to kill President Reagan, or the man who killed John Lennon. If, like Lee Harvey Oswald, the assassin is killed, the connections may be harder to trace.
Jefferson Davis did not order the killing of Lincoln--Booth and his accomplices hatched the plot on their own. With the hysteria being whipped up constantly by the media, some idiot may think he would be hailed as a hero if he took out the man the media considers a monster, a Russian puppet, a fascist. Hopefully there are no moles in the Secret Service and those in charge of guarding President Trump will be constantly vigilant.

“Resistance” doesn’t really describe them. It doesn’t capture the nastiness. Resistance is not the correct word for attempts to stop the democratically elected president.
They are trying to stop the will of the people as defined by the constitution.
