Rubio, speaking to Fox, endorsed Trumps points on law enforcement and making the immigration system more merit-based. After movements on those two fronts, Rubio suggested, then you can do something very reasonable with the people who have been here a long time who are not gang bangers, who are not criminals, who are not a threat to public safety.
As a member of the bipartisan Gang of Eight, Rubio pushed a comprehensive immigration reform bill in 2013 that ultimately passed the Senate but not the House, though he later walked back his support for some of its provisions. Alongside other points, the 2013 bill would have created a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants living in the U.S.
Trump addressed the question of immigration at his generally well-received address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday night, after some speculation that he would endorse comprehensive reform, possibly including a path to legal status for some undocumented people. Trump did not call for that in his speech, but talked about the need for greater enforcement of immigration law and reform of the U.S. system into a merit-based one, while still presenting illegal immigration as a threat to the country.

The only kind of reform we need is vigorous enforcement and restricting legal immigration as in Sen. Tom Cotton’s proposal.
Keep Rubio and his Gang of Amnesty as far away as possible. Trump should not go wobbly on the issue that got him elected.
Alexander, Corker, Graham, Flake, Heller, Hatch, Hoeven, Murkowsky, McCain and Rubio all voted for the Gang of Amnesty and should be removed from office.
Will his Gang run it by Trump before they start shooting their mouths off ?
Remove them all plus the Democrats.
With Bannon & Miller in the White House I don’t see how ANY amnesty is possible. Lot of misinformation out there.
OK. I’m seeing something. This merit based idea... so what did Trump say... for legal immigration we need to make it merit based you have to add value to the country ..you have to support your self ... in othe words a true net asset to the country
Now if that criteria was a requirement for someone that here illegally to become legal. In other words a true middle class net asset to the country working person that happen to be here illegally.
Then...Trump smart’s ..keep the illigals that really are a value ..reframe the lefts argument about compassion for illegal to are there value to the country and other American citizens or are they a drain
Rubio suggested, then you can do something very reasonable with the people who have been here a long time who are not gang bangers, who are not criminals, who are not a threat to public safety.

No, al-Rubio, we will not pass any new laws for the benefit of people who ignored the current laws.
ALL illegal aliens MUST break multiple laws DAILY to remain here ILLEGALLY.
Illegal employment.
Fraudulent documents.
Illegally collecting benefits.
There are NO “law-abiding” illegal aliens, dolt.
No new laws to benefit those who ignored the current ones.
Amnesty in any form will sink Trump.
Illegal aliens must leave and get in line like everybody else.
Man up, Marco. Stand with the president.
That’s the story of the GOP Congress on everything. Everything will be “difficult.” Repeal Obamacare? Difficult and probably not possible? Immigration reform? Difficult but may be possible. Cut spending? Here are all the reasons why that is difficult. Maybe Marco should retire if this is all so difficult.
immigration reform = amnesty
I’m thinking Ted Cruz I really don’t think he has to go back to Canada and stand in line to clean up his status...;)
Did you listen to his speech? Stop following fake news if you can’t filter it. He didn’t only not cave, he doubled doubt and said that even legal immigration should be merit based!
It will be a LIE because the Dems (and republicans, too) will fight to eliminate any penalties as soon as amnesty is given.
Exactly why we should never pass any bill that allows illegal aliens to game the system in any way.
They have already done that, they will do it again if given the opportunity.
NO AMNESTY OF ANY KIND!
Apparently he is legal, although I am still curious how, I’d like to see the documents.
Because his mother is an American.
For the US government to recognize him as a citizen, the parents would have to have filed for a CRBA or a passport at the time. I would like to see the documentation.
There is speculation that they did not and he was naturalized at age 16 when he needed a US passport for a school trip abroad, possibly under the Reagan era amnesty program.
