At, during and after Trump's presser the Press advanced the theory that Trump is responsible for destroying the credibility of the media. Even Trump accepted this premise somewhat at his presser. It is difficult to destroy that which is in ruins.

The trust in the news median has been steadily declining for the last 4 decades. It is at its lowest now.

Cronkite wasn't the first to lie to advance his own personal agenda but since that's when people really started noticing I think it's a reasonable start point.

Without the internet, Dan Rather would be respected. We didn’t learn about Walter Cronkite until the internet effectively exposed him.
So, what killed the MSM is that they didn’t recognize that the old phrase, “If we don’t report it, it didn’t happen.” Is from a bygone time. They must change or die, just as U.S. car manufacturers learned when Japanese cars started hitting the market.
