A lot of people aren't telling the truth about the new Secretary of Education
It would be easy to say that the lies about Betsy DeVos were ineffective since she was confirmed, but the confirmation vote was too close for comfort. The lies had enough heft to cause two Republican defections, Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-NEA) and Susan Collins (R-NEA).
Typical of the lies spread about DeVos is Allie Grosss Out of Options article at Vice News.
she’ll be my hero, if she’ll just close the Department of Education and send it back to the states....
I stopped reading after they called Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski republicans. Fake news.
I can’t speak to the lies. I am sure they were legion and undeserved.
However, I did see DeVos in her hearing and she was either totally and embarrassingly unprepared for such an important undertaking, or, she is truly an air head with good intentions. One who will need a strong team to translate for her.
Practically incoherent, she answered no questions that I heard, directly, but instead trailed off babbling of some blue sky imagining and drivel, with seemingly no clue that she had been asked a direct question.
That being said, she has train loads of money and seems to be actively on the right side of our long collapsed public education. Thank God.
Certainly, I wish her well regardless how inept she appeared.
And so what if she is the worst public speaker in the world. We’ve had far better public speakers who have worked terrible havoc on what used to be a much more honorable public education system.
Maybe being a lousy public speaker lends her some humility since she obviously isn’t going to be able to brag to herself that she’s just charmed millions.
Guess they won’t be having a Million woman march for her.
Pray America woke
Confirmation too close for comfort? It’s a pass/fail examination, and she passed. The closeness of the vote will be remembered only until the time of Trump’s next controversial tweet. And with the epidemic of TDS, they are all controversial.
Is ‘commie core’ shut down yet? That’s another must-do if it isn’t.
Man, when the left screws things up, they really screw it up. It will take all of Donald’s first term and some of his second to get it all done.
“...close the Department of Education and send it back to the states.”
We don’t need a Cabinet-level Department of Education; nor does the Constitution authorize one. Any Federal compelling interest in education would be linked to commerce (and perhaps integration of immigrants into American citizenship). Thus the first step would be to restructure the Department into a Sub-Dept. of the Department of Commerce, reduce the Secretary’s title, rank, and pay-grade to Under-Secretary, and there-fore demote everyone in the Sub-Department by one pay-grade. This would save money, without having to fire anybody, and reduce the number of government employees as well, since many would quit.
