WASHINGTON (ABC7) Ten of the people accused of participating in violent protests on D.C. streets on the day of Donald Trumps inauguration were in court Thursday.
They were among the 230 people who were arrested and charged during Inauguration Day incidents involving broken windows, burned vehicles, and fighting with police. The incidents happened in a four-block area around 12th and K Sts. NW in downtown D.C.
Thursday at D.C. Superior Court, 10 of the 11 who were indicted by the grand jury on felony riot charges Wednesday were arraigned.
Charging documents showed some of the defendants are from as far away as Maine, Illinois, Massachusetts, and Georgia. Three are from Pennsylvania, two are from Virginia, and two are from Maryland.
Those indicted Wednesday include: David Baghdadi, 39, of Rockville; Jeremy Bingham, 24, of Arlington Mass.; Matthew Fichtner, 25, of Boston; Nathaniel Jaffe, 29, of Philadelphia; Samuel Kitch, 26, of Baltimore; Tylan Paxton, 24, of Woodbridge, Va.; Colton Richardson, 26, of Savannah Ga; Matthew Stearns, 30, of Carbondale Ill.; Breton Strasburger, 22, of Pittsburgh; Nicholas Webster, 19, of Erie, Pa., and Lucas Wooden, 21, of Wilton, Maine.
All but Jaffe were scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
Attorney Grandison Hill said he represented eight of the 10 who were in court. He said they are worried.
Prosecutors gathering video of the scene from various sources said new evidence is coming in every day.
The judge told the defendants to come back March 17th for their next appearance.
On Friday, 52 more people were charged with felony rioting. They face a maximum of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.
This needs to happen way more often, so far left wing rioters in this country have gotten away with just about everything.
Right you are!
Throw the book at them! I’ll bet that there’s some pretty good hi-Rez video of some of their activities too!
What the??? Judge tells them to “come back”??? He let them OUT on bail?? Is he insane? They’re freakin terrorists!! What if they set off a car bomb and kill someone? What is wrong with this judge, is he another liberetard?
Funny you should have Robert Blake in that pic saying that. He clearly got away with cold blooded murder.
There’s a thread about a Swedish guy and his London girlfriend disabling 70% of cameras in the area with malware. If the rioters can be proven to have known the cameras were out, that’s felony conspiracy on top of rioting.
A friend of mine (Dwight Vines) who was President of Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, LA sent out this email last night. He was prez from 1976 to 1991.
“Almost every day the news media exposes another university that has lost control of their students and other agitators. I worked for universities for 38 years. but I never remember hearing about even one university losing control of group activities on its campus.
In 1978, Northeast Louisiana University invited a representative of the Shah of Iran to speak on the campus. Iranian students and their friends enrolled in USA universities were not pleased and planned to prevent the talk at NLU. After they began recruiting students to come to NLU to protest, we learned about their plan.
I discussed the matter with NLU officials and we decided that we would not let off-campus students disrupt the speaker. I met with local law enforcement officials from Monroe, West Monroe and Ouachita Parish. asking them to help NLU develop a plan for the situation.
When the time arrived, students attempted to interrupt the speaker. They were twice told not to interrupt by Dean of Students, Tom Murphy. On the third interruption, we asked law enforcement to clear Brown Auditorium.
When the smoke cleared, there were about 70 demonstrators in local jails. The protesters refused to give their names, so they were booked as John Does. After about two weeks, a local Muslim doctor paid a fine for each of them and they were released after signing a commitment not to return to NLU.
This was the biggest story NLU ever had in the news media in Europe and the Middle East.
I rest my case.”
IIRC the cameras were disabled a few days before the inauguration - as a likely test run. DC folks noticed it in time and rebooted the computers to eliminate the malware (ransomware) in time for the day of the inauguration.
Seemed like a good idea at the time...
I can see it now... a new SJW group: RLM
(Rioters Lives Matter)
Yeah that was unbelievable that case, he must have had one hell of a lawyer or about the dumbest jury alive. “Oh I left my wife in the car while I went back to the restaurant because I forgot my GUN, and when I returned she was dead!” WOW, what a coincidence!
If these thugs don’t see jail, then it’s all theatrics, and Trump will be seen as a paper tiger. IMOHO
I’m happy that they’re worried.
Did a google search on this guy David Baghdadi. This is not his first rodeo, he is a professional protester and enviro whack job who has been arrested previousl 2015 at a Carolina Panthers game.
“Two people rappelled down Bank of America Stadium during Mondays football game to protest the banks financing of a company building a natural gas facility. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police charged four people on three misdemeanor charges after the protest, and the department said its investigation is ongoing. Video courtesy of Danielle Wilson”
time to make examples of these fools.
If guilty of rioting, lock em up for extended periods and fine em.
Publicize it and let everyone know that is the consequence.
The rioters acted “stupidly.”
Yes, familiar names. That Jeremy Bingham person was also involved in a protest group blocking an interstate in Boston in 2015.
Sounds like the strategy the Clintons always use for the crooks, get them all the same defense lawyer and have a joint defense agreement. Strategy should maybe be illegal because it is basically racketeering, protecting the criminal conspiracy. The best interests of the client as an individual aren’t necessarily served.
