Action Park's notoriety as a water park where visitors in the '80s and '90s suffered slips and more serious injuries -- some called it "Class Action Park," "Traction Park" and "Accident Park" -- is now reportedly bound for the big screen. Johnny Knoxville ("Bad Grandpa," "Jackass") is set to star in an "Action Park" movie based on the Vernon water park. He'll produce the film via his company, Dickhouse Productions, for Paramount Pictures. A Deadline report says the movie will be "in the spirit" of "Bad Grandpa," Knoxville's last collaboration with Paramount. So far, no word on any Jersey filming locations, but it looks like Knoxville's park will set up shop safely outside the bounds of the Garden State. Production is scheduled to begin in South Africa this March. John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky ("Silicon Valley," "King of the Hill") wrote the script with Knoxville and Tim Kirkby ("Veep") will direct. "The goal is a big, fun '80s-type comedy," Knoxville, 45, told Deadline in 2015, saying the film would have more narrative than "Grandpa" but also plenty of stunts. "It's about this park in New Jersey. It actually existed. I don't know if we'll call it this, but there was this park called Action Park and it was like as if us, instead of doing 'Jackass,' decided to open a theme park. It has that same spirit, like all the safety was left up to the people who walked in. "...The design of the rides was built about as cleverly as we build things," Knoxville said. "I mean most of the kids were like early 20s or teens, and I suspect they were not sober a lot.

Can’t stand that guy or any of his “movies”. Haven’t been able to sit through 15 minutes worth though.
I thought Bad Grampa was hilarious
I’ve seen a documentary on Action Park. You literally took you life in your hands at that place.
CC
Traction Park!
The Alpine slide that local stoners would come to a complete stop in the middle of while shouting “I’m so flying!”
(Yes, I did see that when I lived there.)
The monorail that had a support strut so I into the ground..
Ah, good times.
Annnnd.. autocorrect doesn’t know “sink into”.
It “corrected” it to “so I.”
The 23 foot high cliff dive was my favorite.
Action Park in Vernon Valley great Gorge or awesome. Two parks for two seasons.
Me my buddies would go to Action Park all the time in the summer we are all athletes such as wrestlers or football players or soccer players it would pretty Fit Kids and was exhausted when you got home at the end of the day.
Then the winter time night skiing.
Jersey baby,Jersey.
My grandpa lived in Sussex and everytime we would visit my sister and I would see the Action Park billboards (as well as the commercials on TV) and beg my parents to take us there. They never did. I had no idea what I was missing, LOL.
I’ve been in this community for 30+ years. The owner/operator was a scumbag developer who had the entire township administration in his pocket. Anything goes, no concerns for safety OR environmental compliance, he even went as far as building an emergency services facility on the property with the intention of keeping the remedial medical services “in the family”. That went bust and the building was known by locals as the Pink Elephant due to it’s disgusting color.
I spent much of my misguided youth at Action Park doing all those things that misguided youths do. And lived to tell about it. Go figure. Good times.
We had fun there in high school I have pictures that have been hidden from my parents and now my kids from taken in Action Park. lol
Of the little I've seen of him it seems to me that his aim is to try to make southerns look stupid. However, there was one thing I saw him do that was marginally funny. Regarding the 1960s Roger Miller hit, "You Can't Rollerskate in a buffalo herd", he set out to prove you can't (rollerskate in a Buffalo Herd), and actually attempted it.
Oh cmon, Jackass was hysterical. Juvenile but hysterical. :-)
'Jackass' was the only Knoxville movie I ever attempted to watch. I thought it was beyond stupid and not worth any of my time.... I don't think I lasted 20 minutes.
But, to each his own.
forget the scary water slide, I wanna ride in the tank and shoot at people LOL!
So Hollywood has exhausted the potential of remakes and sequels, television shows, and comic books. Now they’re making movies based on amusement parks. Got it.
“”You Can’t Rollerskate in a buffalo herd”,”
If you liked that one you’ll enjoy this. Funniest starts at 0:30.
