Glocks are very popular handguns and top quality used by law enforcements, competitive shooters and all gun enthusiasts. Thanks to Gaston Glock for introducing this fine piece of firearm to our law enforcement agencies back in the 80's. The Glock pistol was designed to be simple and capability was superior to the Smith & Wesson .38 cal revolvers that our LE's were carrying back in the day. The civilian market quickly picked up on this and spread like wild fire.

With its simple blue print maybe, its why many manufacturers created their own version of this highly acclaimed "striker-fired" pistol. Here's a few to mention, but not the complete list:

Here are some cool facts about Gaston Glock pistol: Glock customize: See the rest of the list here and video. What about your Glock, what custom job have you done it?

You gotta give credit to the HK VP70, which was the first polymer-framed pistol with a striker mechanism. Predated the Glock by 12 years.

The glock was designed to replace the p38 used by the Austrian military.

Plus the team of engineers he hired to do the design work.

The Glock is a good pistol we are lucky to live in a time where one has the choices of hand guns that we do.

Just think of the wonderful firearm designs we would have if we were not strangled. By GCA34 and GCA68.

and all gun enthusiasts

Quite the broad brush.

I'm a "gun enthusiast", and were I to be given a Glock today, it would be on TexasGunTrader.com tonight.

If you like your Glock, you can keep your Glock - but I'll take a 1911 any day.

More skill is required for the operation of the 1911.

More skill is required to carry a glock safely.

Glock - Taking the best of John Moses Browning Hi-Power and updating it with modern materials and fire control system.

A Glock is an updated, modern, 1935 Hi-Power.

Ouch!

Knew a sub zero-IQ guy who carried a G19 w/o a holster. He pulled it out one day and pop it went into the pavement. “Safety-triggers” indeed.

"The Glock pistol was designed to be simple and capability was superior to the Smith & Wesson .38 cal revolvers that our LE's were carrying back in the day."

I disagree with that statement. Glocks are no more "capable" than the .38 revolver they just hold more rounds and thus have greater firepower. However, there is a trade off in reliability. LEO has decided that the tradeoff of some diminished reliability for greater firepower is best suited for their needs.

Hi TG...

I don’t have any Glock tools, I started with the Sig platform and have stuck with it.

I am curious as I have read stories about Glock safety etc. mostly anecdotes but no real facts.

What do you think are the key items to be aware of with Glocks? I’m contemplating a G17 or G19, ya know, one of the CLASSIC Glocks to add to the collection...

Best,

G

It is a subject that could go for months. Do you restrict it to only discussing polymer pistols, or do you include the CZ 75 which is doing real well in competition comparisons?

Do you do a comparison and add in 40 cal?

Do you restrict it to long slides for target use?

Only Glock-like non-manual safety weapons?

What about de-cockers?

Only duty/competition sized or CCW sized?

I have a nice concealed carry single stack, but want a larger sight radius for my next purchase, if I read a hundred of these articles does that constitute “equipment acquisition paralysis”?

i have a Glock 19, and i’ll never buy anything but a Glock again. Firepower, reliability, and the trigger reset are second to none. True, there is no external trigger safety, but that is what the gun is designed for, to be fired quickly in stressful situations. It’s a no nonsense weapon...if you are kind of afraid of guns, or like to fondle and constantly hold and fiddle around with a weapon, the Glock is not for you. The best safety is to keep your finger off the trigger..very simple.

Luckily, I am allowed to own more than one gun. Glocks happily coexist with 1911s, and various other pistols and revolvers in my house.

Right tool for the right job, and as much as I love the 1911, sometimes it isn’t the best tool for the job.

Although .45 auto is my favorite round to reload and shoot, sometimes it isn’t even the appropriate ammunition for the task at hand.
