I was made aware of this free ebook and thought I would share the link because it might be a good source of information. I haven't read the book but the author is a friend of a man whose judgement I trust.

Anchor baby. And if his self-written author info is any indication, English is definitely not his first language and he hasn’t spent a lot of time in America. I think he’s more Pakistani. Interestingly he doesn’t say in his author info how much time he spent in America which is why I think the answer is “very little.” However, the price is right for this book and I’m willing to give it a shot. Thanks for the heads up.

Author Info from Khalili’s Amazon Author Page:

Mahmud Khalili was born in New Jersey, USA, in 1980. His family had to leave Afghanistan because the men would be killed due to the Soviet invasion of their country in 1979.

He grew up in America and Pakistan as his father was a political leader in the war. He was the head of the Political party of the Jamiati-Islami party and a young commander who would go on to be the hero of Afghanistan, Commander Massoud, was in charge of the military side of the party. Both men would be the role models for Mahmud as a child and as a man.

In 1996, Mahmud’s family were deported from Pakistan because his father was the Special Envoy of the Afghan president to Pakistan and highly Anti-Taliban. Pakistan, who created the Taliban, did not like an independent voice to be inside their country. Mahmud has fond memories of his time in Pakistan and still has many school friends from Froebels internationnal school.

The Khalili family then moved to India because the enemy of your enemy is your best friend. India welcomed them and Mahmud’s father became the Afghan Ambassador to India. Mahmud finished his high school there and some University. He was very active in helping his father by giving interviews in indian newspaper and Tv media. He is still very active in India and tries to visit friends as much as he can.

Mahmud finished his bachelors degree at the American University of Central Asia in Kygyzstan and received his masters from Bircham International University in Spain. He has live in Afghanistan, America, Pakistan, India, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Spain.

He got married in 2012 and a year later, while in Spain, working on translating his fathers war memoirs from Dari to English, he became a father. His fathers war memoir, Whispers of war, has already been translated and published in Spanish. The English version will be published by SAGE publishing in India in early 2017.

He is also in the process of finishing a coffee table book that he worked on with his father called Morning Breeze.

Mahmud feels that family, friends and his writing are the most important things in his life. He loves being able to talk and write about Afghanistan in order to bring more real awareness about the situation there. He always remains hopeful that one day, his son will be able to live in an Afghanistan with a real, long lasting peace.
