TSIHOMBE, Madagascar She is just a frightened mom, worrying if her son will survive, and certainly not fretting about American politics for she has never heard of either President Obama or Donald Trump.
What about America itself? Ranomasy, who lives in an isolated village on this island of Madagascar off southern Africa, shakes her head. It doesnt ring any bells.
Yet we Americans may be inadvertently killing her infant son. Climate change, disproportionately caused by carbon emissions from America, seems to be behind a severe drought that has led crops to wilt across seven countries in southern Africa. The result is acute malnutrition for 1.3 million children in the region, the United Nations says.
Trump has repeatedly mocked climate change, once even calling it a hoax fabricated by China. But climate change here is as tangible as its victims. Trump should come and feel these childrens ribs and watch them struggle for life. Its true that the links between our carbon emissions and any particular drought are convoluted, but over all, climate change is as palpable as a wizened, glassy-eyed child dying of starvation. Like Ranomasys 18-month-old son, Tsapasoa.

Whoa, Trump isn't even President yet and he's already causing drought in seven African countries......It's SCIENCE!
Looking forward to many more of these shrieking liberal OP-EDS over the next 4-8 years.
Does the NYT publish anything but Fake News after Nov 9?
The author of that article belongs in a mental hospital.
No one denies climate change. The climate changes all the time.
People deny that man is the direct primary cause and that taxing man will prevent or make climate change better. You can not predict next weeks weather accurately so don’t tell us you can predict the weather 100 years from now!
Thanks for reminding me to buy some more Eli Lilly stock. Prozac and Seroquel sales for nut cases such as Khristoph are surely off the charts.
We know this because droughts have never happened before./s
This is beyond insanity.
Bullshit.
More idiotic fake news from a fake news website.
“Climate change, disproportionately caused by carbon emissions from America, SEEMS to be behind a severe drought that has led crops to wilt across seven countries in southern Africa.”
SEEMS to be - UTTER BULLSHIT passing for scientific finding
No. And they were exclusively purveyors of the finest in fake news before November 9.
When I want to be sure the news is fake, I always reach for the Kristoff.
Climate change and man made climate change are not the same thing.
Very few would claim that the Earth’s climate does not change.
The debate is does the action of MAN have any effect.
Well, I think on a small regional area, things humans do could effect the climate of that area. However, can the action of humans change earth’s climate? I doubt it.
In the early 1800s a volcano in the Pacific erupted putting enough pollution in the air to actually change the earths climate for a year but it was not permanent.
The whole man made climate change is nothing more than a way for the left to push their socialist views on to the world.
It is fake science.
So where is Madagascadaddy? Why ain't he paying some bills?
Or was that kid somehow the result of Divine intervention?
Damn, it must be Karl Rove's racist weather machine, deliberately targeting poor countries with those satanic emissions.
Apparently malnutrition was never a problem in Africa before the invention of the automobile.
Yeah, right...there were never any severe droughts until capitalism...
This worthless paper has been lies since 1851.
