I believe the deal required setting out hog traps on the levees. Then shoot ‘em in the trap, I guess.
There are people around where I live who trap them and then release them into humongous pens, feed them, and raise the piglets for food.
I’ve seen them from a distance. I won’t go near, even though the traps and pens are galvanized steel and they can’t get out. LOL.
I have taken a double handful of hogs in my life -- some with a lever action .308, but most with a knife. There is a trick to it, the guide had dogs and the dogs would stop the hog so you could wade in there and stab it.
They are not your friend, but the danger is overestimated. Only got bitten once, and that was on the thumb. They mostly want to get away.
When I turned 45 I gave up on the knife and only used the rifle.

A lot of guys hunt them with AR-15’s. But, there’s ferrell hogs on the lease I’m on and I shoot them with my Remington bolt action 270. Does the job just fine. The danger with ferrell hogs is getting in the middle of a pack of them and they become agitated and knock you on the ground. If they get you down then you’re hog meat. So, don’t walk among them.
I figured they were bolt guns because it was in Cali.
