I am posting this because there were at least eleven posts about Courage in 2010 and 2011 and hundreds of comments.

===========

Sadly, we must announce that one of our very favorite rescues, GSROC alumni Courage has passed away. Our volunteers are devastated at this news and our hearts go out to his guardian. She cared for him when he first came into our lives, emaciated, starving and near death. Thanks to the help of our supporters, GSROC was able to care for Courage and return him to good health and ensure he had a happy life. His owner helped us care for him and fell in love with him. When she announced she wanted to adopt him, we were thrilled - for both of them. Courage lived a happy life, knowing he was safe and loved by all. He will be waiting for his owner on the other side of the rainbow bridge. click here to read about Courage. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/unleashed/2010/04/courage-dog-german-shepherd-starved-vet-tech.html

At least his last years were happy ones. Sorry to hear this news, but that is the cycle of life. So sad that Courage had to spend so much time in an abusive situation.

Nothing like the love of a good dog and rescued dogs know and appreciate their new homes; especially if they have spent a lot of time in a pound or neglected like this one. RIP Courage. You will see your best friend at the Rainbow Bridge when its time...

I knew Courage and saw him once or twice a year. What a nice and mellow dog he was. He had two dog mates who I also know.

One of my current 4 rescues was 8 when I got her 2 years ago. She wasn’t abused but she was kinda neglected as the outside dog while 3 other small dogs were allowed inside to keep the old person owner company. Why she wasn’t allow inside is a mystery because the owner died and that’s why I found her at the Humane Society pound. The other 3 had already been adopted out and they were worried about this old girl because people don’t like to adopt older dogs. She is so loyal and spends more time with me in the house than the other 3. They are younger and geared more toward that kind of behavior though. My old girl is still spry so I’m hoping she lives a really long time. I’m so lucky to have her in my life so when I hear stories like this one about Courage; I can really relate. :)

Adopting older dogs has many benefits and only one downside; less time with them but when you think about quality of time rather than quantity and see how great they are from being house trained and past those terrible 2’s and 3’s when they want to chew up your bed and sofa; it’s not so bad at all. :)

Goodbye, Courage. I'm happy I knew your story, even though I'm sad right now.

Thank you, Chris.

At least his last few years were spent in a loving home.

God created His beautiful creatures before man so I believe we will see them again on the other side.

I have had three really special ones (one is still with me). I would love to see the three of them together.

Based on 1Corinthians 2:9 & Psalms 37 4:11 I know all my dogs I’ve had over the years will be waiting. He promised!
