Central Washington game wardens are looking for tips that lead them to those responsible for shooting up a herd of elk near Ellensburg on Nov. 6, and two conservation groups are offering $4,000 in reward for info leading to a conviction in the case.
The incident occurred in Schnebly Canyon north of town between 9 and 11 that morning, the last day of rifle elk season, and began with a report of three dead elk on a hillside.
But when officers arrived they discovered even more.
"We found four dead calves in a line within 100 yards," said Officer Roman Varyvoda.
Helpful hunters on the scene followed a blood trail that led to a fifth elk, a "big healthy cow" that also died, he says. Read the rest of the story here.
What state is this in?
The first sentence of the excerpt tells you.
“Central Washington game wardens...”
According to the article, the state of Central Washington.
I’ve heard of Washington, but not Central Washington, so I assume that it is located in the middle of North, South, West, and East Washington states.
:)
(Washington state. Ellensburg is just east of the Cascades.)
I hate poachers.
Take away their guns, chain the perps to trees and we’ll take of the problem.
This is why we cannot have nice things....
Who the hell would do this?
Who would do such a thing? Poorly raised humans, non-humans, people practicing to become snipers, psychopaths, murderers, ...
And they wasted the meat therefore the killers were not hungry.
They were hunting without tags and should go to jail and contemplate their crime against the earth and all that live on it.
Kinda suspect they tortured pets when younger.
This is lower than poaching. They were just shot and left there. Thrill killing is more likely.
Sorry, I just scanned it before setting up for work.
Washington DC is not a state, right?
Sounds like something some tribe would do for fun. Wouldn’t be the first time.
***Who the hell would do this?***
People of a low character. I remember such things happening in other states.
Here, in Arkansas, some hillbilly, mad because the Game and Fish commission banned running dogs to chase deer, went out and shot several elk near the Buffalo River. This was a time when the G&F commission was trying to establish an elk herd in the area.
Ugh! That would be wonderful. >:(
Any further attempts?
We just got a little bit of land on the Kings River. It is so idyllic with what’s there now a population of elk would just put it over the top!
A herd of elk has been established on the Buffalo River around Ponca. it seems to be doing OK.
