Dear President-Elect Trump,
Theres work to be done. And I know youre up for a challenge. In fact, Im now sure of it. So let me lay out a policy position that I am truly hoping you will adopt as your own.
Im talking about natural gas as a transportation fuel: cheap, clean, abundant natural gas. And Im talking about U.S. energy independence, balanced budgets, jobs, trade and the environment.
We use natural gas for power generation and as a heating fuel but thats an old story for a new reality. Fracking has unlocked a phenomenal amount of gas in the last decade. Our onshore wells are rivaling the reserves of the deep offshore giants. And were getting much more for much less these days. North America also has over 2 ½ million miles of pipeline with more coming on line plus distribution capabilities in every urban center in America and Canada. All thats missing is an appetite for it.

For Starters - the Oregon coast’s Jordan Cove liquid natural gas export terminal has been slow-tracked, pending FERC approval. It’s ready to be build, just needs approvals. Can Trump help this get started even before he’s sworn in?

Its wonderful to think things are possible again!
FOR THE PEOPLE>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Start construction. By the time injunctions are issued, the new government will be in power and dismiss the action.
Great idea. If we can wean ourselves off of petroleum as a fuel for transportation we will be much better off both economically and in security terms. The geopolitical importance of the Middle East would be greatly reduced. Oil money would dry up, and funding for Islamic terror groups would do so as well. We would not have to worry so much about relations with Middle Eastern nations, so it would be easier for us to deal with terror group militarily when needed. Using gas for vehicles would drive the price higher, but that could be mitigated (with appropriate relaxation of regulatory hurdles) by an increased emphasis on coal and nuclear for power generation.
An obvious downside would be that there would be some economic issues during the transition. For instance, until enough people drive gas powered vehicles, nobody will want to open a natural gas fueling station. At the same time, nobody will buy a gas vehicle wjen there is nowhere to buy natural gas to fuel it. I am sure there would be a way around situations like this, but it will take time and money to get it done.
I’d rather we not be a colony to other nations. Do NOT export our energy resources. Use them here, especially natural gas. It is the highest value feedstock, way more valuable than oil and coal.
Convert the Power Grid to 100% Thorium Reactors, with Hydro for peak power hours.
Those who don't will get the treatment that the SecDef in "Independence Day" got....
Unleash the shackles put on Alaska oil. Open up ANWR. Drill baby drill. Get the Trans-Alaska Pipeline flowing its intended capacity again.
One thing he could do is open Yucca Mountain.
Have Trucks (18 wheelers) run on Steam! Steam engines that use natural gas in the boilers could save a lot—steam has few pollutants and can generate a great deal of power. The only problem with steam is you have to wait a half hour to build up a head of steam before you can go making it a poor power source for private cars—but long haul trucks is a different thing.
I've wondered why they don't transition to diesel-electric drives (torque?). Everything I've seen about that method looked like a plus.
