First time ever that I signed up as stb 56 yr old female, naturalized citizen originally from Canada to work the polls. I was flanked by two "experienced" Democrats who had worked the polls for an eternity, native U.S. citizens.
I had to explain to him why we have a Republic and not a Democracy when he wistfully complained about why we don't use the popular vote instead of the electoral college. He reluctantly nodded his head in agreement.
Democrat two, female, late 50's divorced ANTI union with cushy county job which is defined as "full time" but more like part time.
I had to explain to one of the voters how the parties show up on the ballot in various flavours including: Conservative Party, Green Party, etc.
Democrat two hadn't a clue!
Both Democrats listened to crap like NPR and watched crap like 60 minutes, which I called an "hour long sleeping pill."
They both "warned" me about one gentleman in particular who comes to vote EVERY election and complains about Obama and the rigged system, getting on his soap box; how this guy "never shuts up."
Well sure enough, D1 was elbowing me and making eye movements when said gentleman, an older man who obviously had worked hard all his life, came in with his son and proceeded to talk about election fraud.
D1 had earlier told me that there is "no such thing" as election fraud, which I countered with "how do you know the software on that machine is counting votes correctly once it gets uploaded to the mainframe/cloud?"
He had to admit he didn't. (I work for IT and he knew it)
I gave the older gentleman a wink and helped his son to vote affidavit when he wasn't on the registry. A surprising amount of people were NOT in the registry books, and quite a few that WERE in the registry were deceased, which the voters made a point to let D2 know (she seemed rather unconcerned).
This particular electorate/voting site was approx 700 including absentee roles. Almost 500 came out to vote. Our county as a whole, just squeaked by edging Pub over Dem. We have a LOT of sanctimonious, self-professed "educated" white libs in our county.
At the end of the night, the "ticker tape" rolled out of the machine showing a 2 to 1 victory for President-Elect Trump. The look on D1 and D2's faces was PRICELESS! The same look as if the price of their vacation Amtrak ride to Seattle had DOUBLED (yes, D1 droned on about how he and his wife LOVED that trip).
Kind of a "the electorate aren't smart enough to know what is good for them" lib look.
That's the arrogance. Funny...I believe that same arrogance is the reason why Hillary wasn't prepared to steal the election.
Thank you for the account. It’s worth reading twice.
I am happy to see that your interactions with the Libs were civil. I expect many Republican poll workers didn’t have the same experience.
hey the Am Track trip los Angeles to Seattle is a great trip.
thanks for working the poling place.
I tried to stay very neutral and I even changed the subject at times, trying to get common ground so they would channel their inner common sense.
Obviously they were old enough to be raised correctly so there was a glimmer of hope there.
Great post! Thanks for your work at the polls yesterday, citizen! God bless!
They went from New York to Seattle! I have a lot of respect for train travel, both romantic and nostalgic (back when America was great!)
Obviously they thought of themselves as the “haves” and showed nothing but false pity/disdain for anyone who was not like them, mainly hard working farmers and blue collar workers. Not sure if the mention of D1 having the $$$ and time to make that trip was supposed to impress me.
D1 was the “can’t we all get along” type older D1. Not the raving younger, wedge issue pro-stupid Lib.
He opined over how it was “sad” that people were unfriending each other over politics on Facebook.
Good report.
I will report my experience as a poll working in NH later tonight.
Oh, and to everyone who thought Trump was going to lose, see tagline.
Thank you for your report and your civic service.
I love you.
Looking forward to hearing about it! I personally lived in New Hampshire for about 5 Seconds. LOL
At my work, I heard my boss saying “all indications show that Clinton is winning this”. I should know better than get worried about what arm chair quarterbacks are thinking.
Pleasure to meet your acquaintance!
