Donald Trump Jr.: Ohioans will ignore Kasich, Portman, and vote for Trump anyway
The Columbus Dispatch ^ | October 24, 2016 | Darrel Rowland

ASHLAND — Ohio is a state where Donald Trump's campaign has to overcome both Democratric and Republican forces, his namesake son told hundreds of supporters in a sprawling shop that sells guns and other outdoors gear.

In his first public campaign stop in the Buckeye State, Donald Trump Jr. said his father will overcome the lack of support from officials such as Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Sen. Rob Portman because he appeals directly to the people.

“This is a year for change. This is a time where everyone is sick of their politicians as usual,” he told The Dispatch after watching a demonstration on the downstairs archery range.

“I think you see a problem on both sides. People have gotten very comfortable, Democrats and Republicans alike. We have to change that, because it’s not working for the people.”

Voters have rejected their establishment leaders in favor of someone like Trump because he's a “disruptor” who will change the Washington culture.

Speaking to the crowd from the steps of Fin, Feather, Fur Outfitters, the younger Trump cited disillusionment with Washington “on both sides of the aisle.”

“So many of these problems … both sides have done this. Both sides have forgotten about the people. Both sides have gotten really rich, and their buddies have gotten really rich, and their friends have gotten all the jobs, while the rest of the country suffers,” he said.

He painted a "rigged" system “of the elite, by the elite, for the elite. They run by a different set of rules, they play to a different set of laws, they can do whatever they want. If you all did the same stuff, if I did the same stuff that they’re doing, we’d all be in jail right now.”

Trump said his father will prevail in the election because of grassroots support that may not be reflected in the polls that show him well behind.

"This really is a movement of the people," he said. "When I’ve gone around with my father and I’ve seen him speak to 10, 15 or 20,000 people two, three, four times a day, and I see the other person that we’re running against couldn’t fill a room this size with two week’s notice and paid attendees, it says something. That enthusiasm gap is amazing.”

Trump, who during a private tour looked over the gun display that covered one wall and half of another, warned of a clashing set of values in this year's election.

“I think we all know what’s at stake here. If our passion is shooting and the outdoors, the other side’s passion is messing with your rights and your freedoms. We've got to protect that at all costs.”

The response provided by Hillary Clinton's campaign addressed none of those issues.

“For years, Donald Trump has stiffed American workers and outsourced jobs for the sake of making a profit. A new report exposed Trump for buying steel from China instead of Ohio because making a profit is more important to him than keeping jobs here in America,” said Paula Watson, chair of Ashland County Democrats.

“Hillary Clinton is the only candidate running for president who has a plan to help American workers, she’ll make the largest investment in job creation since World War II and build an economy that works for everyone — not just those at the top."

Actually, I don’t even think it is ‘close’ at all. I think there is a tsunami of elitist-hating disgust out there the likes we’ve never seen before.

I actually think the margin of such is bulletproof and cheat-proof.

Faith my friends. You gotta have faith.

As an Ohioan, the people in the state I talk with are furious with Ka-sick and will hold our noses to cast a vote for Portman, only because we abhor his democratic opponent.

Nice to hear, I sure hope you’re right about Ohio. That Kasich took over $200,000 from Soros, I read. Good grief. That’s why he continued to stay in the race well beyond reasonable hope for a win. Disgusting that he and others, like McCain, Ryan, Romney, et al are actively fighting against us. Money corrupts.

Indeed have faith.
God help and guide this great nation.
PS: Thanks for your service!

I’m an Ohioan, and I think Kasich has gone off his rocker.

Portman is playing a political game. I think he’s trying not to offend the Bushies. Once upon a time, he was a conservative. I’ll vote for him, of course. We have to keep the Senate. I think down deep there’s still good in him (Luke Skywalker)

Glad to hear what you said about Ohioan’s furious with Ka-Sick.

We ALL held our noses the last two elections with McJuan and Chokester Romney - makes me sick and totally disgusted they are soooo against Trump. $$$ makes people evil and corrupt, I guess.

I agree about Portman. In Wisconsin, people are disgusted with Paul Ryan - he’s not in my district, darn it. Even though our primary went well against Trump, I feel that so many people are totally disgusted with DC swamp that Trump might just pull this off here, too. Voter fraud is rampant in Milwaukee and Madistan. Bussed people in from Illinois, previously. Against, Bush one time a New York woman was filmed handing out “Smokes for Votes” while people got off of a bus, at a polling place in Milwaukee.

Now we have voter ID so this may help in some cases.

Pray for Trump safety and Trump to win.

Amen.

Was the story about Kasich taking $200,000.00 from Soros ever validated? So much false information intended to muddy the waters this campaign it’s hard to keep track. If true, that might explain his behavior.

Never heard it validated. Kasich comes from the financial houses of America, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he had been funded by Soros.

The polls have Portman ahead by 15 points! Does anyone actually believe that anyone will vote for RINO Republican like Portman and then turn around and vote for Hilary? 100 percent not possible! Trump will win Ohio Big League!

The Politicians made this possible, not Trump. Trump didn’t send those Jobs overseas. She is appealing to weak minds.

Are they saying Trump should spend more than his Competitors which puts his Company at a disadvantage in the Marketplace?

Whatever happens on Nov 8, John Kasich, Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney, and their RINO pals are finished. It’s about time.

In CA you can Register to Vote in two minutes according to a Latino Vote Website.

If you have a driver’s License, an SS # or an IRS I.D. # you are good to go. I love people stealing my Sovereign Vote.

I have developed such disdain for Republican “leaders” this cycle.

Reince Priebus may not love Trump, but he is DOING HIS JOB.

These elected clowns like Kasich and Ryan and Ayotte and a boat load of others who are running away from the people’s choice sicken me.

I won’t forget. We are the party of the elephant, right?

Actually, I will vote for Trump. And I’ll vote for Portman. Not because I like Portman, because Strickland is incompetent. He bankrupted Ohio when he was Governor.

Kasich is a non-issue to me. He is term limited out so he is finished no matter what he does.

"I think Kasich has gone off his rocker."

I have in-laws in Ohio. They voted for Obama the first time and against him the second time. This time they say it would be a disaster if Hillary wins. They are pretty typical for Ohioans so I have high hopes.
