If you were on a deserted island with a teenage Brooke Shields, would you want to be rescued ?

Weapons, ammo, communication gear and emergency supplies are the bare minimum for ocean going voyages.

If you have to write SOS in the sand you have already failed.

“...a well-placed S.O.S. is not only a Hollywood cliche.”

I read this same thought, pretty much, in a NY Times story about an older woman who died hiking the Appalachian trail. She made many mistakes, even though she was an experienced hiker. She was hiking alone, first off, choosing to continue on after her partner had to abandon the journey. It was downhill from there (no pun intended!).

And the piece also said that while she made a camp and carried on for a while, she never made any distress sign that would be visible from the air.

So, yeah, you should find a way to do this if you are ever lost in the wilderness.

an 18 ft rowboat with an outboard motor. Not exactly my idea of an ocean going vessel.

These fools are lucky to be alive. They made ONE good decision. Making landfall and STAYING there.

I wish there was more information about the island they were stuck on. Did it have fresh water or fruit. Anything that would suggest how long someone could survive there.

The couple were headed to Tamatam Island from Weno Island in the Federated States of Micronesia

The weather started getting rough, the tiny ship was tossed....
