I am looking at a car for a friend prior to purchase. I noticed that the car had a DOD vehicle ID sticker on the front windshield. It's been a long time since I last had to read these (as a military brat) - am I right in remembering the vehicle was the property of a two-star general or equivalent naval rank?
Naval Air Station Fort Worth. Joint Reserve Base. 2 stars may be an Rear Admiral or other Military rank with 2 stars. That I don’t know, just guessing.
Yep.
JRB Ft. Worth is shared by Navy and Air National Guard.
Thats an expired (December 2009) Major General pass issued at NAS Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base (formerly Carswell AFB) in Fort Worth TX.
That is correct. The decal should have been scraped off before the vehicle was sold.
That expired decal indicates the vehicle was registered on post at NAS Fort Worth and the owner should have removed the decal from the vehicle before he sold it.
I think they may not even be using the stickers anymore - certainly my local post does not do them anymore
I'm pretty sure you're correct; and as I remember, it should have been removed prior to sale.
I'm guessing from the color of the stars (white) that the owner was a naval officer of flag rank (Rear Admiral, Upper Half) but I may be wrong on the title.
I went to renew mine at Ft Hood and was told that they don’t issue them anymore and to remove my old decals.
With that cracked dash, hope the POS was selling cheap................
The sticker expired after DOD went away from windshield stickers, in part to make it more difficult to identify military and DOD personnel off base. After 9/11, DOD went to 100 percent ID check. Before that, you would be waved through the gate with only the occasional random ID check. The two stars indicates an O-8.
It’s been a while since that vehicle was road legal. All the stickers are way past expiration.
Cars a POS.Dont buy it
The base commander is a navy captain. The head of the 10th Air Force (headquartered there) is, however, a Major General.
The registration looks right, if out of date, but the inspection sticker doesn’t look quite right. Maybe from outside the metroplex where the standards are different?
In any event, I’d take the car to a mechanic and see if it will pass inspection before I’d pay more than scrap metal for it. Also, there is a penalty if a car goes out of registration when you go to re-register, and you have to sign an affidavit.
Could have been anyone with two star flag rank (Rear Admiral-Upper Half or Major General) either active of retired. Most if not all military bases no longer issue or accept vehicle stickers. They’ve gone to 100%personal ID checks.
When I was four years old we spent a few months in base housing, in a house at the edge of the airfield section, front-row seats for the B-36s and the bulldozers they were using to extend the runway.
It was glorious.
