Just when some of the statements coming out of PETA start to sound credible and well researched, this anti-fishing video pops up!
The only reason this video is getting shared in this post is to show you guys how absurd it is. Anyone that is familiar with fishing will tell you that this anti-fishing video is an exaggerated and overly propagated piece of garbage. I am sorry to have to put it so bluntly.
I can only get about 10 seconds into that thing without laughing. However, let me clarify a few things.
There are lot of principles and statements that PETA makes that I think are spot on. After all, I think most people on the planet are all for the ethical treatment of animals. Statistically, very few people are out there completely abusing animals in grotesque ways.
With that said, for PETA to support this silly video as if it will suddenly change the mind of anglers everywhere. Nope. Sorry. That just isn’t they way its going to work.
This video makes numerous claims that are unjustified and rather ridiculous. Instead of listening to me, why don’t you judge it for yourself, see it here.

True dat, but my first thought was “It’s Cal Sportsman”, so I figured there’d be a guy who pulled a fish out of the water and takes a big bite out of it, raw and alive, because, well, it’s Cal Sportsman.
In all seriousness, you give PETA way too much credit for being reasonable. Remember, they consider pet ownership to be slavery and equate animals with humans - literally.
Watch the Penn and Teller Bullsh** episode on PETA. It’s hilarious.
I will give PETA some credibility when one of them throws himself between a LION and a rather tasty Gazelle. The PETA peson exclaims <”the poor little animal,” while the Lion exclaims, “Oh Boy, LUNCH!!”
Yes, I laugh at PETA, but agree with them regarding deliberate and vicious cruelty to any animal.

If fish are so traumatized by being caught, why is it one can catch a fish, let it go, and then catch the same fish five minutes later?
or the guy on the Alaska Bush People that catches Salmon with his hands and then punches them for effect. I used to just hold them by the tail and smash their head on a rock. I miss fresh Silver Salmon here in Texas.
Every so often they will send a person in a large fish suit to terrorize children at a beach.
I would love it if some gentlemen would grab this “fish”, string it up by it’s tail, and tell the children how it has swallowed a man, then cut it open and watch the fool fall out.
PETA protested in Gloucester during the filming of the Perfect Storm on behalf of the fish in the boat’s holds. The fish were rubber.......

Agreed. But their definition of cruelty includes owning pets, raising animals for meat and dairy products, etc.
The same people who freak out at a fish being in pain will insist on the right to painfully dismember an unborn human.
Right..that’s the problem..their daffynition.
I say PETA means “People Enjoying Tasty Animals.”
I also help my daughter take care of her little dog, the cat and the 2 birds. The life of a “PET”, in comparison is better than that of half the people in the world.
