I need a safe space from the title alone! Just kidding, obviously. We used to have an AR and several dozen other firearms until that tragic SCUBA diving accident. Lost ‘em all. Every single one plus physical metal.

"Besides owning a shotgun an AR is the next best thing for a home defense."

Although I love and own the AR (I've got ones chambered in 5.56 and 7.62) I don't agree with this statement. Inside the confines of a home, I'd prefer a handgun with hollow points to a rifle. Especially if there are multiple family members in the home. An AR round will penetrate drywall like a knife going through butter.

if I had any firearms, I think I would prefer first, a shotgun, 2nd handgun, only 3rd a long gun.

That depends on where you live, bro.

Pistol for problems in the house, 12 gauge for problems in the yard and a full sized battle rifle in 7.62 for problems further away. I wish I had an excuse to by a 50 BMG.

ARs are nice and all, but I think I’d prefer to leave the home defense to Colt, Glock & Mossberg.

“How bout you all, do you use your AR-15 for home defense?”

If I lived in the country maybe. I’m in a subdivision shoulder-to-shoulder with neighbors.
S&W pistol, caliber .40 hollowpoints and a backup shotgun with buck.
A .223/5.56 round would go through the burglar and walls.
