The Roman Empire suffered from a series of mediocre emperors. Since Ronald Reagan we both political parties have run mediocre candidates and once in office the victor in each instance, with the collaboration of the Supreme Court, has taken power from the representatives of the people (Congress). Of course the parties have given us corrupt candidates for Congress who fail to take their responsibilities seriously and instead actively engage in influence peddling and raiding the treasury to line their own pockets and the pockets of their donors.
A republic cannot survive without virtuous leaders who respect the law and the people. Once the majority of the leaders and representatives are corrupted, tyranny will prevail. The current administration has crossed the Rubicon a number of times with no opposition from Congress. We are now set up for this president, or one in the near future, to simply disband Congress, write a new Constitution, and become dictator for life. Will it be Obama, Hillary, or someone who follows who formally ends the republic?
