Can Brand Trump Win a Presidency?
India New England News ^ | June 10, 2016 | Professor John A. Quelch, Harvard Business School

In the marketplace, Brand Trump is authentic. It stands for aspiration and success, but more the ostentatious and flashy success that appeals to the newly wealthy, the entrepreneur, the outsider. For these consumers, brand Trump clearly delivers; Trump hotels, and resorts average a 4.5 rating on TripAdvisor.

Brand Trump has been extended to other categories, from steaks, to education, to apparel. Not all of these ventures have succeeded. Few guests see the competencies of a good hotelier as relevant to designing distinctive quality suits. But, for a minority of consumers who embrace the Trump lifestyle, these other products can add brand value and, being produced by others under license, they deliver some extra profit to the Trump organization.

In fairness, many brands have hits and misses when they extend beyond their core franchise. Richard Branson, for example, has done very well with Virgin airlines but other Virgin ventures, such as Virgin Money and Virgin trains, have performed poorly. Branson, however, never set up a flight school!

Can a commercial brand become a political brand?

Is the commercial Trump brand extendable into the political arena?

Commercial marketing and political marketing differ in two fundamental ways. In the world of commerce, the consumer votes at the cash register every day and the marketer does not need a dominant share to succeed; targeting a minority of consumers with a distinctive product is often more profitable than an all-things-to-all-people approach. But, in the world of representative democracy, you have to be the market share leader, scoring at least a plurality of votes, only on one day every four years. Unlike a commercial brand, the political brand doesn’t need a close ongoing relationship with consumers, and it doesn’t need to coexist with competitors after the election....

Interesting take. My opinion is that the successful operation of Trump enterprises demonstrates that Trump can also run the presidency successfully. The same characteristics of a good CEO would in my opinion be useful in the design of a successful administration.

There are places where diplomacy may be needed in politics more than in industry. I accept this and I would like to see Trump demonstrate these characteristics as well as his obvious ability to lead. My assumption is that in his business he has encountered events where these political skills were required and so I suspect he has the ability to do this well too.
It would also seem that he steps in it from time to time, and this is a characteristic that is harmful to running a country, but not fatal, as other leaders have done similar Texas two steps around tricky issues in the past.

And this is the point where it is clear that a political market exists and the competing products all suck... so why not the Trump brand? Is that brand worse than the Clinton mafia? Worse than the socialism brand of Sanders? Worse than the neocons? Worse than the naked people on stage brand of the Libertarians, or the crypto-Communist brand of the Greens?

The shelves in today’s political marketplace are stocked with crappy products. The idea of having a guy at the top who actually might make decisions in the best interest of the country and has already successfully run large scale enterprises is about as good a brand as is on offer right now.

"The same characteristics of a good CEO would in my opinion be useful in the design of a successful administration."

For years we been hearing from the right, "we need to run Gov't like a business" from the left, "we need a strong guy in their like Lee Iococca", they asked him he said no, it is too broke, I can't fix it.

Well the got their chance this Nov. to see if the CEO type can be POTUS once and for all.

It is time for all of them to man up and pull the lever for him, especially those on our side that have been wavering with a pro-business stance...

They took Warren based on her claim of being Native American. She now claims 1/32. In fact, Harvard has slots guaranteed for 1.5 % Native Americans. What else disturbs me is she along with every Congress critter in both Houses do not have to pay back student loans nor do their kids. This kind of BS is dead wrong. Look at all the kids the McCain’s adopted. How many never paid a damn cent nor did they.

Trump is incapable of setting his ego aside and makes every event or concern about him personally.

To win, he has to prove me wrong.

He has got to stay on message about jobs and the economy, national security, stopping illegal immigration (and emphasize ILLEGAL), the IRS, state department and Homeland Security corruption.

Of course he also needs to stick it to Hillary for her law breaking (with examples) and point out that she has no new plans for turning the economy around because she has no new ideas that differ from Obama. Her campaign is ONLY about bashing Trump and spending more to put us in deeper debt.

The American people have spoken. Donald is our choice- like it or not.

We all know that the rats will resort to ANYTHING to keep Donald from undoing the damage Obama has done to our country
The Rinos and GOPe will also resort to anything to keep Donald from upsetting their gravy train.

They will use every trick in the book- voter fraud, maybe even try to take him out.

We MUST put aside our anger, our differences, and unite behind Donald.

Donald CAN win this and make America great again. He is a brilliant business man/CEO who can get things done.

He may not get the wall built for a long time-if ever, try as he might, but he WILL put enough guards on the border to stop the tsunami of criminal invaders. He WILL enforce our immigration laws which is vital to our survival.

He is a fearless outsider not crippled by PC. He hasn’t even started on Hillary yet.
He knows all her criminal activities and is not afraid to hit her with all of it.

We must make this the biggest Republican voter turn out in history.
Anyone who refuses to vote, votes ‘third party’ or does a ‘write in’ is casting a vote for Hillary. Fact.

We MUST all turn out and vote for the Republican candidate.
This the most important election in our lifetime

That’s not a stand alone statement.

Do you disagree with my introductory statement?

“Trump is incapable of setting his ego aside and makes every event or concern about him personally.”
