Praise God - news that I am BRCA-negative!

This helps the plans for surgery on my BC and treatment!

For those that remember, I have breast cancer. Next week (unless my doctor for some reason suggests otherwise) is the surgery I'm supposed to have, marking the first "treatment" I get.

Largely my surgery plans were all contingent on my genetic testing. My dear half-sister died of inflammatory BC, and my mother now has BC herself. Plus a cousin (mom's side) had BC. So I was definitely a candidate.

But, praise be to God, I am BRCA-mutation-negative, so in theory don't have to radicalize my surgery.

Please consider continued prayers!

I also am waiting for head MRI results (again), hoping nothing really scary is there (mini stroke? cancer?), that might even affect all this BC approach! Please pray for my head! (LOL - seriously, I have had major chronic head pressure and balance issues for 4 months now; trying to figure it out too!)

Thank you for all your help!

Continued prayers for you.

Might your balance problems be Meniere’s Disease or Labyrinthitis ? I’ve had the latter for almost 20 years.

Don’t know. Just started seeing neuro, and none of this came up yet.

Balance has actually plagued me for 20 years. Started suddenly and badly 20 years ago when I moved to CT. But no head feelings with it, besides noticing I got more genuine headaches instead of stomach queeziness for “stress”.

Moving back to MD I had some balance problems, but not much. But could hit me any time. Only the last 4 months do I have it more often (not as bad as CT), along with head pressure.

I suggested that as it might be your ears (even perhaps something as simple as impacted wax in your ear canals !). If you haven’t done so already, a thorough exam by an ENT would be able to tell you if you have those conditions (or rule them out). They also did a brain scan with me, too, IIRC, and found no other abnormalities that caused my dizziness and vertigo.

Already been thru the ENT. Look clean as a whistle and, as I told him, my hearing is superb (looking for growths in ear drum area). Biggest obvious problem was deviated septum on right. But not something he would pursue as likely cause of pressures & imbalance.

Hmm. What about possible allergies ? Also, are there times of the year when the symptoms are lessened or more pronounced (with respect to head pressure) ?

I’ve had the latter for almost 20 years.

Hey! Me too! The only thing that gives me relief when it flares up is prednisone - brings the 'carnival ride' phase down to a few days instead of 4-6 weeks. I've had some wild trips and scary drives, living with labyrinthitis.

May I ask how you developed the condition ? I had an untreated infection that began (in of all places) in my toes (ingrown nails that got into the bloodstream). The podiatrist refused to treat me despite my clearly presenting symptoms of an infection (fever, nausea, et al). Eventually, it so weakened my immune system that within a year, I kept having flu symptoms until one day all I heard was ringing and perpetual dizziness (just two symptoms out of many). From that point on, I’ve had both tinnitus and labyrinthitis.

When I was finally stable enough to have some of my symptoms properly diagnosed, it was 7 years(!) in and what might have been temporary had it been treated at the start turned out to be considered permanent. I was initially given two meds, one whose name I’ve forgotten, and Meclizine tabs, although neither were particularly effective and I ceased using both. The ENT suggested head exercises to try to alleviate symptoms, but that doesn’t work as it just made me more dizzy. I looked up Prednisone, but the side effects for taking such meds looks frightening, and I don’t need even more problems added to what I already have.

I cannot drive as a result, as I would be classified as intoxicated. Often because of a frequent sensation of falling, even sitting in a chair, I tend to routinely hold my neck and head so rigid that I end up getting cramps.

For folks that don’t really know what it’s like to have labyrinthitis, the closest I could say to a physical condition is actually jet lag. Before I had laby, it was very similar to that weird, woozy, disoriented and floaty feeling after a long airplane ride. Usually heading straight for bed for a decent rest you’re OK by the next morning, but with laby, that just doesn’t go away, at least not in my case.

I seriously doubt it is allergies.

I have only had this pressure/disequilibrium for a few months - straight. Started ~Feb 5. Ruined my tutoring at college (but I got through it).

So, I have no real long time period for the combo to go by. Only that I’ve had some disequilibrium issues over the years, but nothing real bad except in CT.

Thanks for any info you have. I can always ask the doctors (they doubt it’s allergies so far, too, although I’ve also tried Zyrtec/Benadryl to see if it would help).

Thank you.

They will continue genetic testing, FIO, because the other mutations apparently don’t change treatment approach. They don’t know enough about them now to change anything.
