U.S. crude oil exports rose to 591,000 barrels per day in April, up 83,000 barrels from March, according to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau on Friday.

The total figures are the highest since at least 1920, Rigzone reports.

A majority of the crude - 324,000 bpd of it - went to Canada, 90,000 more went to Curacao and 36,000 others went to the Bahamas.

The figures come almost six months after the U.S. government lifted restrictions on crude exports.

I’m guessing that the only reason that Canada imports American crude is because they have one or more refineries with easier pipeline or railroad access to the field of production.

That, and/or perhaps the nature of the crude, which might not be as available from Canadian wells.

I’m guessing it’s cheaper to buy U.S. crude than to extract from oil sands at these prices.

It was my understanding that the omnibus that Ryan so proudly handed to Obama allowed more US oil to be sold. That is the reason for the increase in American exports. And.....it just so happens, Ryan’s family is heavily invested in.....you guessed it, OIL.

Ryan must be taking lessons from Harry Reid.

Guess it beats working for a living, eh Paul?

Hahahaha.. no, that just means we are importing more of their oil... and paying more for it....

US does not produce enough oil for its own demand, so selling it outside the country instead of domestically just means we have to import that much more and pay even more for it...

The lifting of the export ban on oil is just a tax every person in the US will now pay to subsidize US oil companies. Enjoy the higher gas prices.

The ban never should have been lifted. But now that it is any and all subsidies to these companies should also be lifted. If they want to sell US oil outside the states they don’t need to be susidized by taxpayers.
