WASHINGTON (AP) — The Air Force's top civilian official said Friday she supports requiring young women to register for a potential military draft as Congress heads toward a divisive debate over whether to erase gender restrictions from Selective Service.

Air Force Secretary Deborah James said there's no reason women shouldn't have to sign up just as men between the ages of 18 and 25 do. Women have never before been required to register in the United States and including them in a draft pool has outraged social conservatives....

[[Sens. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Mike Lee, R-Utah, said they will fight to have the provision removed from the bill. They said far more research is required before such a significant change is made.]]

Are these the only two sanding up and speaking out against this atrocity ?

As a woman I support having women register for the draft.

Because in my opinion there is no better way to end this nonsense of women being equal to men than by making women equal to men.

Me too!! I want these little high school Mall queens to get drafted in the army if we are going to all be equal without a constitutional amendment. I want them fully trained by Sargent BUBBA in hand to hand combat just like the MEN!! And I want them fighting hard and not crying if they are surrounded by ISIS cut throats. Buck up Bunnies.

I’ve had my differences with Cruz, but I will say that of all the presidential candidates, he was the only one to unequivocally condemn the absurd idea of putting women in combat units.

Registering for the draft does not equate to being drafted, and being drafted does not equate to being in combat. I served in the United States Air For e with women performing the same job I did. There is no reason, in time of crisis, to draft women to perform support duties to free up MEN to perform actual combat missions.

So what would the consequences be for this country and our war fighting capability if the draft were re-instituted and women were treated just like men? Would mothers be given a special exemption? The military is no place for social engineering or making a point. National security is our highest priority.

Why should women be confined to support duties? Is that equal treatment? SecDef has already said that women can serve in combat roles whether it is the Marines, Special Forces, Seals, or the Rangers. And half of the men serving in combat are there not as a matter of choice. If women are eligible for the draft, they must be treated like the men.

The only way we should even consider a draft for women is when we completely run out of men.

But, now that you mentions it, except for the very few men volunteering to carry the load of defending our country, we HAVE run out of men, haven't we?

The current defense secretary cleared the way for females to fill any and all combat arms openings several months ago.

If you were speaking about convincing rational people I would say you have a point, but we are not and so you do not. :^)

There are a lot of other jobs in the military
that don’t require combat skills.

“Our current Defense Secretary”. Sure, and he’s the guy that said openly serving homosexuals aren’t a problem, either.

Being a member of this administration has absolutely nothing to do with competence, military effectiveness or patriotism.

“Equal” is not the same as “equivalence”.

Spoiled children and adults will do nearly anything to bother others. The sooner the other end of the default process, the better. Lay them all off and stop their pensions.
