Handguns are almost always inferior to rifles in terms of accuracy and stopping power. Since defensive fighting usually happens up close, those qualities are important, but casual carrying of long guns is not socially acceptable in much of the world. The solution is to use the most powerful handgun that’s still practical for unsupported firing.
Guncrafter Industries Model No. 4 Hunting pistol attempts to create exactly that kind of weapon by combining 6 inches of barrel with a .50-caliber bore, the largest legally possible without National Firearms Act paperwork. That way, the projectile already has an impressive frontal area, 23 percent wider than .45 ACP, and 15 percent higher velocity for the same 230-grain bullet weight. For hog hunting use, slower but much denser 300-grain bullets are available. While less energetic than a hot 10mm auto load, the 50 GI is more efficient by not having to use as much of the kinetic energy to expand the projectile.
The 50 GI accomplishes all that with the pressure of only 15,000 pounds per square inch. With the 6-inch barrel, especially, it gives much-reduced muzzle blast compared to other powerful defensive chamberings intended to supplant .45 ACP. It’s an interesting weapon but I see a trend.Some people think that the newest latest wondergun will somehow give them an advantage.How about mastering more traditional and proven firearms.I can’t imagine needing something more than a .45 auto to stop an assailant.

True. My wife got me a Desert Eagle in .50AE for my 50th Birthday. First shot placement is critical since there’s no double tapping this gun! It’s a pretty impractical firearm for daily carry but I hunt in grizzly territory.

Yes, and that is why I own a Glock mod 20. 15 rounds of 41 magnum punch in a pistol that’s highly controllable and accurate. In my hands at least.

The .44 Magnum isn’t much better. Very impressive at the range, but I don’t consider it a combat handgun. You can fire it one-handed but if your wrist gets tired and you let it flip, it’ll jam.
That’s a nice gun. Def a show stopper, and good for carry.
I have a Colt Delta Elite, but it’s a bit much to carry CCW, for me anyway.

Thats me with a heavy shotgum load.
They are hard hitting, reliable as any other 1911A1 and recoil is maybe a +P thump..... like and carry their original Model 1 and sometimes their Glock 20/21 conversion slide assembly and magazines ....... Ammo is pricy but its fun.
Yeah I like telling folks I carry a 50 caliber Glock.....:o)
