Washingtonians will be able to begin salvaging roadkilled deer and elk in most of the state starting later this year, and they wont be able to use as many apples to lure in the live ones during hunting seasons.
Earlier this month the Fish & Wildlife Commission approved both new regulations by wide margins.
The citizen panel voted unanimously to allow the collection of muleys, blacktails and whitetails accidentally run down on roads in all but three of the states 39 counties, and elk statewide.
The three exceptions are Clark, Cowlitz and Wahkiakum Counties, where ESA-listed Columbian whitetail deer roam. According to WDFW, its illegal to mess with the species, either dead or alive, so no deer blacktail or whitetail will be salvageable in those three counties. Elk will be OK to pick up there, though. They’re going to salt the roads in the Summer now to season the meat.
They did this in West Virginia a few years back...There was a restaurant opened named “The Road Kill Grill”....
How many of these “Road kills” are also going to have bullet holes?
I wonder how much of this roadkill will end up in Chinese takeout dishes...

I don’t get these Game Commission laws at all! If you hit one of their protected animals you have to pay for the damages to your vehicle (or your insurance does). The gov’t takes no responsibility. BUT if you happen to shoot one of these animals out of season because you are hungry or filling your freezer (shopping basically) then your subject to arrest and huge fines. I think this has something to do with hunting on the King’s land and killing the King’s game.
I had road kill about thirty years ago. The grouse was delicious.
The only one I didn’t miss was with my truck not my shotgun. Got hung on the brake cable.
The headline made me think road-kill diners and auto body shops had started baiting the roadways in Washington state.
