I have not personally seen the dogs close up (busy trying to get the available dogs get adopted) but the volunteers have said they show no signs of physical abuse or being tied or chained up and they were being well fed. They said all the dogs, both young and old, have a puppy attitude.

Well i don’t necessarily mean physically chained up, but obviously being free of all that horrible fur must be wonderful for the dog.

I think the next picture in the series showed a woman bringing out a dog that looked to have all sorts of horrible things caked to its fur. That makes me sad to see that.

I knew a guy a while back in New Orleans named Dave. Something was not right with him mentally, could easily see this by looking at his house.

he had two small dogs that lived with him, and he let them mess in the house, and he never picked it up. The situation was so bad that when he went to sleep at night, he laid down, put his sleeping bag over him, then put newspaper over the sleeping bag in case the dogs went on him...

One of the dogs had eaten off all its fur from mid back all the way to the end, basically wherever it could reach its muzzle, it had no fur.

He also had a number of cats in cages. I can’t recall how many, but at least five. They never left their cages. He put a layer of newspaper down, then messed it, he covered it with a new layer, and it built up like that. He never changed it out. These cats when I first saw them were on top of about maybe two feet of piled up newspaper, layered with feces and urine, and they basically had the top 1/3 of the cage to dwell in.

You could smell this situation as soon as you pulled up to his house at the curb on the street. Like it would overwhelm.

So he was apparently an animal hoarder. I only knew this guy for about three months or so before it became apparent that he was crazy. Seems like animal hoarding goes along with some sort of other mental illness.

All I ever knew of his situation was that he had some girl, things went wrong, she left, and he felt like he didn’t deserve anything after that, so his life spiraled downward.

Very sad for the animals involved. I probably should have reported that, but I didn’t.

It is good ot hear about people like you.
I had a large long haired German shepherd years ago and she was to be put down within a week. She lived a great life with us and we miss her.
I was left with my Belgian shepherd and he died form cancer and then I got another Belgian shepherd thinking it would replace my other, he never , but he too died and I miss them all, so much don’t know if I can ever have another dog.
