Despite pressure from students, Emory University President James W. Wagner has reaffirmed his school’s commitment to free speech.

On Friday afternoon, however, Wagner stepped out on to the quad to discuss the issue with students from Emory’s Young Americans for Liberty (YAL) chapter, who spent the day petitioning in support of students’ right to free speech, and Wagner himself joined in.

A video obtained by the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) shows Wagner taking a piece of chalk from the student petitioners and adding his own message to the sidewalk last Friday.

“EMORY STANDS FOR FREE EXPRESSION!” Wagner scrawled on the very same sidewalks where “Trump 2016” was written.

Trump effect.

This man has done more for the country running for a mere party nomination than some presidents have done in 8 years.

The guy initially caved big time and started promising all kinds of stuff to the 6 or 8 criers who came to his office. Then all heck broke loose, and even MSM stations started exposing the ridiculousness of the position of the “students”. It was only after days of this sort of pressure and ridicule did the prez finally do the right thing.

As for losing his job, he announced his upcoming retirement months ago. So, he had absolutely nothing to lose by standing up in the first place. I will at least give him credit for finally, and publicly, getting on the right side, even though it apparently took a public mocking to get him to do it.

That is more like it - show some spine. Wasn’t the University of Missouri president forced to resign over similar nonsense? Like a noose drawn with dog poop or something?

What took him so long?

Pressure from the trusties to smooth over the school’s rep?

I see that he is retiring this year. Going out on a *high note*. Whatever the reason, I’m glad he did this.

An editorial from the Emory student newspaper: http://emorywheel.com/intellectual-courage-requires-humility/

Brains full of mush. This wouldn’t happen at Hillsdale.

In other words....grow up...

...life is full of people you won't agree with.

Grow a pair and deal with it.

Emeroids and other college students are looking for their safe space. They are afraid of microaggressions. After being coddled by public education and liberal colleges and universities, and they face macroaggresions outside academia, they are in for a big bout of shock and will be apoplectic when they get jobs in the real business world, if they can. Their meltdowns will not work in the real world. Good for the Emory President for not having to fringe liberal lunatics.

I just have a feeling that this President’s chalking
was not entirely voluntary. I suspect some very wealth donors and trustees told him that Trump supporters were not to be harassed and that there would be a new University President if they were!
