Rubio makes move to keep all the delegates he won, just in case

Probably to stop Trump - and we'll explain how that works - but hey, you never know.

Usually when candidates announce they’re “suspending” their campaign, that’s a legal term of art that simply means, “I’m no longer running but I need to be able to still raise money to pay off my campaign debts.” In Marco Rubio’s case, though, maybe he is only suspending it. In this election year there’s hardly anyone who can truly be said to be out of the running. And if we do get to a contested convention and the party starts looking for a compromise candidate, I suppose you’d be in a good position if you already have at least some pledged delegates.

But more likely, the request Rubio made today is designed to help deny Donald Trump a first-ballot majority:

Marco cannot win on first vote but still seeking a job where he doesn’t need to show up for work.

It’s the Sea Island Republican Open Convention plan, and Rubio is part of it.

Deny Trump 1237 and give the nomination to one of the GOPe loyalists. And no, that isn’t Ted.

Well, that means Trump loses those extra delegates from Alaska. Cruz loses the Rubio delegates from LA (though he probably still gets the unbound delegates). But since Cruz would be unlikely to win on the first ballot anyway, just keeping them from voting for Trump is a win.

Rubio also filed to have his name removed from the CA primary ballot, to make sure that he is not taking any votes away from Cruz there.

This makes a brokered convention more likely.

Massive #NeverTrump efforts afoot.

— Massive effort to revise rules so that more than 1237 are needed on the first vote. REMEMBER: The rules for THIS convention are written and voted on AT THE CONVENTION. So the “1237” rule MAY NOT EVEN APPLY.

— They are ensuring that Trojan Horse delegates are seated for the convention. Ensuring that delegates who are selected are not true Trumpsters, so they won’t vote Trump on the SECOND vote.

— All-out effort to prevent Trump from getting 1237 delegates, just in case.

— All-out effort to split the remaining delegates by keeping Kasich funded to stay in the race until the Convention (because they know if Kasich drops out, Trump will get enough of Kasich’s supporters to ensure that Trump exceeds 1237).

— It’s also possible the #CruzSexScandal isn’t even a thing, but was planted to keep the media focused on “Trump planted it, poor Ted”, to keep up the in-fighting among the GOP, just enough to keep voters undecided, and therefore continue to split the vote and prevent Trump from getting 1237.

— Corey Lewandowski issue: To keep the spin going about Trump’s “violent” campaign against women.

— And of course the “Trump renounces pledge” thing... Trump the only one to not hedge and play politician, but he’ll be blamed for backing out.

And next week it will be a different set of scandals. Week after week.

Just remember all:

#NeverHillary

Rubio knows what’s about to come down about the Cruz cheating scandal. He’s thinking he can show up and “save” the party from Trump. It’s a pretty arrogant strategy and a longshot for sure.

Frankly, the only thing that will save Trump is what no one will mention and will never happen. Cruz needs to drop out and endorse Trump, pledging his delegates to Trump. That puts Trump well over the top, unites Conservatives and kicks the GOPe where it hurts.

Unfortunately Trump burned that bridge and it is going to cost him the nomination. Ted may not win the nomination, but neither will Trump. Cruz will go back being a senator. Trump goes home a bitter, beaten man who thought he could take on the machine all by himself and Win.

I’d rather trump win without Cruz.

under current rules only candidates that have won 8 states can be on the ballot at the convention.
