Take a look at this abstract from the journal

Progress in Human Geography:

Glaciers, Gender, and Science:

A FEMINIST GLACIOLOGY: framework for global environmental change research

Mark Carey, M Jackson, Alessandro Antonello, Jaclyn Rushing

ABSTRACT

Glaciers are key icons of climate change and global environmental change.

However, the relationships among gender, science, and glaciers – particularly related to epistemological questions about the production of glaciological knowledge – remain understudied.

This paper thus proposes a feminist glaciology framework with four key components: 1) knowledge producers; (2) gendered science and knowledge; (3) systems of scientific domination; and (4) alternative representations of glaciers.

Merging feminist postcolonial science studies and feminist political ecology,

the feminist glaciology framework generates robust analysis of gender, power, and epistemologies in dynamic social-ecological systems, thereby

leading to more just and equitable science and human-ice interactions.

………………………………………………………………………………...................

The lead author of this tripe is the associate dean at the University of Oregon.

Meanwhile, the recent Paris Agreement on climate change contains the following paragraph:

.........................................................

Acknowledging that climate change is a common concern of humankind, Parties should, when taking action to address climate change,

respect, promote and consider their respective obligations on

human rights, the right to health, the rights of indigenous peoples, local communities, migrants, children, persons with disabilities and people in vulnerable situations and the right to development,

as well as gender equality, empowerment of women and intergenerational equity.

It’s your tax dollars at work in higher education, or at least what passes for it.

I love it-——a statement that means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

Now, ya gotta remember them there feminisim-inspired glaciers being studied all over the world just might run all over people in wheelchairs who can’t get away from their ice....

But, if real women study glaciers, do the glacier heat up and melt faster, or freeze even colder?

I can condense that entire thing down to three words.

"Feminists are frigid."

Is this a joke?

I recall a prominent expert on Cretaceous marine mammals giving a humorous lecture on Mammary Geology once...It was all presented very deadpan, and only two of us in the whole lecture bowl got it (at first).

Transglaciology is one of humankind’s worst scourges. That much is known. It’s settled science.

As an undergrad, my goal was to pursue a Phd., find a professorship somewhere and spend my years teaching and writing history.

It was a passion. It’s all I wanted to do.

That dream was sidelined when I unwisely chose to get married just before graduation. Before I was to take my GRE, my wife became pregnant and I was forced to give up my academic dream and found a real job.

Divorced 20 years later, I resented my x-wife for being the catalyst for quitting my career in academia.

But, now I think I should be thanking her. If not for her these psychotic nutjobs would be my colleagues.

I guess she’s using ‘Glaciers’ as a metaphor for rubic structures. Glaciologist my Aunt Fanny.

I have studied glaciology. All glaciers are feminists, they are very, very slow to warm up.

While we have made some progress, there is still much to be done in the field of human-ice interactions. The time to act is NOW, people!
