The significance of this NBC/Wall Street Journal poll is two fold.

First, it is the first poll to be conducted completely after the news of Antonin Scalia’s passing and Trump’s meltdown at the South Carolina CBS News debate.

Second, it is from a highly respected pollster focused on likely voters and who has a good track record of success.

The poll shows Ted Cruz in the lead now. It could be an anomaly. But internal polling of several campaigns all show the South Carolina race far tighter than the public polling.

This latest poll, however, does not account for Nikki Haley’s endorsement of Rubio and the several good days of good press.

We’ll find out on Saturday.

The Republican primary in South Carolina is this coming Saturday and it's again shaping up as a battle for second place.

Recent polls show Donald Trump holds a 2-to-1 advantage over the next closest rivals Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio. John Kasich and Jeb Bush are further behind.

I agree. He's failed at so many things, and like other politician manqué, he would rather ruin the process and the putative things he believes than see another person succeed. I'd say this is also likely true for many of the people who have bought in to his biggest con job ever, to wit, that he is a conservative.
