Why does a corporation or anybody need permission from the federal government to build anything anywhere? If the company wants to build a plant in cuba, that is between the company and cuba and nobody else. If boeing wants to build a plant in south carolina, that is between boeing, south carolina, and the town they want to build the plant in.

Your question is a good one because it reveals a huge misunderstanding as to what is happening with the practice of offshoring. People opposed to off shoring do not oppose factories moving around inside the USA. That is fine, the 50 United States are our play ground and that is good. It also unconstitutional to interfere with interstate commerce.

So apparently you see no difference in offshoring and interstate commerce, which is a little strange. But that aside nobody is telling corporations that they can't off shore, I wish that were true but the government can't do that. There are only three choices available to the US Government. Do nothing which is what is happening now much to the destruction of the US industrial base, embargo the imports and lastly tariff the imports.

What anti Free Traders are saying that the unfettered access to US markets by offshored corporations needs to end and tariffs are the way to go.

Don’t have problem with legislatures (not executives) making whatever laws they want for import/export that is what they do. Just want to know why a corporation has to get the presidents blessing to do anything. The corporation can make their own decision based on whether it makes economic sense based on the duly legislated tarrifs and whatnot

Show me one time a corporation had to get the permission of the US government to off shore to a non communist country? When it comes to a communist country, like China, they get around the rules by letting the ChiComs own the factory and they build product to spec. If a corporation wants to offshore to a non Communist country they have to do nothing at all.

Respectfully, I believe that it is more likely that the employees will still be state employees on loan to the manufacturer, with the lion’s share of the profits going to the state.

Oh wow! I hadn't thought of that.

Have we ever resolved the issue of the billions of dollars worth of American properties in Cuba siezed by the communists after the revolution?

Not that I'm aware of.

What if this company loses its shirt? Bailout by obama??

I sure hope not. But given Obama's past actions, that could happen.

If it's such a good thing, why would the communist Castro government welcome it?

Because even the most die hard communist loves the goods and services that capitalism produces.

The point isn't whether you allow it or not.

The point is that you have a set of taxes and regulations and harassment that encourages a business owner to leave the country.
