Close Encounter with a Leopard
Cal Sportsman ^ | 2/12/2016 | B Ragsdale

Watch how close this Leopard comes to ripping this hunter apart

True there isn't any leopard hunting in Cali, but you may come across a cougar. Hunting any type of cats is very dangerous, but after seeing footage like this, it might just be the deadliest.

So I guess, if you're into this type of adrenaline pumping hunt, this is it. So imagine being there in a similar environment. Dogs barking, your adrenaline is pumping and you know that cat is hiding somewhere in the brush watching you.

Yet you continue on, step by step, closing in on what you know is a beast that could easily take your life with one accurate strike.

..and then you hear it!

The deepest roar that rumbles in your chest and makes your soul quiver, and without time to hesitate the leopard is in your face, leaping directly at you in full attack.

It's do or die now. See this close encounter here.

That’s not a leopard, that’s a Jaguar.

It’s a Leopard. You can tell because the guides are speaking African, not Spanish!

Although they are cats of similar sizes, there is a huge difference in the demeanor of leopards and cougars. The author Peter Capstick commenting on the practice in the American west of treeing cougars and then lassoing them out of the tree. He said if cowboys tried that with a leopard, there would be a huge overflow at the emergency room of the local hospital.

Was this in reference to the Lee brothers in Tucson, AZ. They traveled the west capturing pumas for ranchers who were
loosing sheep or cattle.

Mr. GG2 used to be a govt bounty hunter and he said you track the cougar up the ridge all day and if you don’t get a shot they track you down the ridge in the evening. I think Leopards and Jaguars are more aggressive.

Anybody remember that episode where Les Stroud was camping out in S America and a Jaguar came around? He was hot footing it back to a village in the dark with the thing right behind him.

Possibly. I don't really remember the total context, I just remember his comment about the leopard's response.
