In a stunning reversal, Donald Trump said that he will strengthen the rights of the LGBT community and bring people together. His new stance comes just days after he said that as president, he would “strongly consider” overturning Obergefell vs Hodges, the Supreme Court decision that found that same-sex couples have a legal and constitutional right to marry.
“I’m a lesbian, we’ve had some great progress for the gay and lesbian community,” NECN reporter Sue O’Connell told Trump. When President Trump is in office, can we look for more forward motion on equality for gays and lesbians?” Here is Trump’s response:
“Well, you can. We’re going to bring people together, and that’s your thing, and other people have their thing. We have to bring all people together and if we don’t we’re not going to have a country anymore.”
Now that’s one big flip-flop because in addition to Trump saying he would appoint judges to overturn Obergefell vs Hodges, he has stated in the past time and time again that he only supports marriage between a man and a woman. He has said:
“I’m not in favor of gay marriage. I don’t feel right about marriage equality.”
Trump has even gone as far as to compare same-sex relationships to choosing the wrong kind of golf putter! He said:
“It’s like in golf. A lot of people — I don’t want this to sound trivial — but a lot of people are switching to these really long putters, very unattractive. It’s weird. You see these great players with these really long putters, because they can’t sink three-footers anymore. And, I hate it. I am a traditionalist. I have so many fabulous friends who happen to be gay, but I am a traditionalist.”
In trying to rationalize the irrational, it’s most likely that Trump is pandering to New Hampshire voters for the primary, 67% of whom support gay marriage.
[[In a stunning reversal, Donald Trump said that he will strengthen the rights of the LGBT community and bring people together.]]
Of course he flip flopped- He’s campaigning in NH- a gay state- (A state where gay people flock to- not that everyone there is gay-)
Still support both Cruz and Trump. You guys just make sure one of their names is on the General Election ballot at the top.
Yet another fact that the Trumpophiles can ignore.
Good grief. The guy says “we’ve got to bring people together,” and it suddenly means “I’m 100% completely totally in favour of gay marriage!”
You Cruz folks are really nuts. I think Trump meant exactly what he said - the gays are trying to divide people, and it’s time to stop this from happening. Which isn’t exactly a bad sentiment.
Well if you didn’t click on the article and didn’t watch the video to draw your own conclusions, why are you asking others what they think? WATCH the VIDEO and you will see this thread is just a hit piece on Trump and has nothing to do with Les/Gay rights or otherwise. He simply said that we all have to heal the divided nation. He spoke strongly on the Heroin problem in New Hampshire and its cause coming from the open border in the south.
If you search for a line from that article. It is being spread on every gay news website out there...
“When President Trump is in office can we look for more forward motion on equality for gays and lesbians?”
I didn’t post from one of those because I have no intention of giving traffic to any website that promotes that abomination.
It’s a deflection to the loaded question.

EXACTLY!
Wonder if Ted Cruz told those gay guys in New York something similar to this when he was up hitting them up for money?
She asked: can we look for more forward motion on equality for gays and lesbians?
He said: Well, you can.
Not very confusing now is it?
Being Trump means never having to say anything conservative.
Cruz operates on the sly. He says one thing to the voters and another thing to his gay donors.
Canât wait to hear the Trump supporters defend gay marriage just as they have already done with Kelo and funding Planned Parenthood.
..................................................
Obviously, you didn’t BOTHER TO WATCH the VIDEO to see what TRUMP REALLY said. You just mouth off having read nothing but the FALSE and TWISTED HEADLINE of this hit piece. Shows your lack of thinking power.
He might be a fiscally conservative populist. Except for the socialized medicine thing.
the most non answer answer I ever heard of to a question out of the blue and the Cruzbots go nutty.. I guess Cruz would have answered with “you people are evil and should be burned” and his followers would have praised him
Cruz has been consistent in saying that gay marriage is a states rights issue.
I guess he should have said that we should round them up and put them on an Island.
Donald Trump like Ted Cruz thinks Gay Marriage is a State Issue, but it doesn’t matter what either of them “think”.
Trump has said that the SCOTUS Ruling is now the Law of the Land, which of course is absolutely correct like it or not.
What is a President going to do to reverse the SCOTUS Ruling? The answer, they can’t do a damn thing. Even President Reagan didn’t put a dent in Roe v Wade.
Face the fact, the SCOTUS eviscerated the Tenth Amendment, and Trump had nothing to do with it. Another Tempest in a Teapot, but knock yourselves out.
Heck, I’m waiting for a National Law legalizing Polygamous and Incestuous Marriage. The SCOTUS Ruling broke the Dam and there are a bunch of differing State Laws outlawing those practices to one degree or another. It will come, don’t doubt me. tick tick tick...
Rage against the media? Check.
Rage against illegals? Check.
Rage against Muslims? Check.
Trump’s act has always been based on delivering the ‘safe’ red meat to his followers. Which is why he’s so mealy mouthed and ambiguous when it comes to issues that conservatives hold but don’t share with the majority.
Trump’s controversial stances are calculated and not based on held principles.
...or anti-homosexual position...
If you think that is a supporting statement worthy of calling it a flip flop you’d better sit down and take a deep breath. What would you have expected him to say to the plant?
