Bought a 2007 Subaru Forester 5K cash, 150K miles earlier this year against my better judgement--hubs was insistent it was reliable. They USED to be reliable. I had an 88 Justy that you couldn't kill. BTW I live in upstate NY with its harsh winters.
Seems they now have major engine problems. Something I've found out the hard way.
Any recommendations on a new car?
loving my new silverado 1500 4x4. got a killer deal on it too. Less than $300/month leased.
Buy American.
Get a Suburban...if you hit something it will likely be worse off than you.
Don’t throw your money away...
You can buy a used car a few years old and save 20 to 30 % off the cost of a new car...
Nissan or Toyota are the only cars, trucks I buy..
I bought a 2006 Frontier in 2009 for half the listed price of a new one with 46,000 miles on it...
For a Nissan, 46K is just getting broken in...
Honda.
I have an 06 Xterra. Purchased new in 06, had 23 miles. Will be rolling 179k on it soon.
Don’t buy new. There are tons of cars coming off of 24 month leases with low mileage, and the new car depreciation already taken.
I bought a 2003 Jeep Liberty in 2005 and it’s still going strong here in 2016. The only thing that sucks about it is the mileage, but even that is easier to take with the recent plunge in gas prices.
Get a FORD. No bailout.
Depends, you want to buy American, Government or foreign.
With all the subsidies, tax breaks and bailouts GM
(Government Motors) is able to put more in their vehicles
than their tax paying competitors. So for the best bang for
the buck GM is the way to go but if your a principled
conservative that believes in the free market and not
crony capitalism go with anyone else.
I have a 2013 Kia Sportage AWD. Runs great in the snow. It’s a little smaller than the Forrester. Have a look at that or the Kia Sorento, which is bigger.
All Kias have 10 year/100k mile on the powertrain and 5 year/60k mile on the rest.
I’ve had a Kia since 2009 with no major problems. You get lots of features “standard” that you have to pay for a higher package on other makes.
I second that emotion! My kiddo drives a Kia and that car gets her thru anything and is great on gas.
Just bought a 2005 Honda Accord with 163,000+ miles for 2000 a month ago when my rebuilt Civic broke down and I like it better already. The seller was another customer of my mechanic which was just icing on the cake.
I would agree with the others not to buy new. Two years old with dealer certification is great. Use TrueCar.com
We used it last summer to get a great deal on a Honda CR-V and my son just bought a Subaru with dealer cert via TrueCar.
I was eyeing the Mazda CX-5. I don’t want to go used this time. Been burned on a Honda Passport ‘95 as well.
As far as a truck we already have a Ford F150
Wary of the newer Jeeps. My co-worker has one and it’s ALWAYS in the shop. He doesn’t not beat it either.
I have a 2009 Acura TSX. Best car I’ve ever owned. A little small in the back seat but reliable, smooth and fun to drive. 150,000 miles and I’m getting new tires this week for it.
IF you want it to last....buy a Toyota.
I love my new Toyota Tacoma 4x4, 6 speed.
One of maybe 6 like it in the SE since it is a manual. The price was very acceptable.
I had the same experience with a higher end Subaru. Greatly disappointed.
For years I the smaller Ford/Merc Milan all-wheel drives. Mercury is no more but I have a Ford Fusion that is quiet, classy and draws admiring comments.
It gets around great on the Michelins it comes with but put studded tires on that thing (I live in the mountains) and you can park on the garage wall.
Good luck!
