Trump’s Iowa machine is very formidable

Chuck Laudner is Donald Trump’s Iowa campaign director. He is a Marine and a fighter who wants Trump to win and is not looking for a position in the Trump Administration. While other campaign staffs sleep with dreams of Pennsylvania Avenue dancing in their head, Laudner says when the Caucuses are over he’ll just go back to his ordinary life in a town so small it doesn’t have a diner.

Trump first spoke to Laudner last December because he goes into every contest well prepared.

We have heard about surveys in Iowa and how the caucuses are now a race to the finish between Ted Cruz and Trump. Nevertheless, in politics it’s usually what you don’t hear about that is most important.

The Iowa Caucuses are strange animals to most of us. They are not merely bands of people marching to a polling place. They are a process that requires patience on the part of the participants and the candidates. The results can be, and often are, skewed by Evangelical Christians who represent more than 55% of those expected to show up next February 1st.

In the last two go-rounds Evangelicals have backed Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum, both of whom were managed by Laudner. Both won, but neither got any bounce...

Sounds like Trump has a better shot at Iowa than I would have thought.

Marines detest coming in second place in anything, just like Trump. You can be sure he will give it his all to reach the objective.

I think he will Win Iowa and roll over the next few primaries. It will be a GOP coronation (that isn’t blessed by GOP Inc).

The tidbit that keeps percolating up in these articles is the size difference between Trump’s crowds and everyone else. Getting a handful of people together will not stand up to the huge crowds Trump draws.

*************

The key is getting your supporters to the caucuses for a couple of hours after
work to listen to other bloviate about how great their candidate is.

I would have never guessed that Trump had a chance in this type enviorment and he may
still not. However if seeing the turnouts in his Iowa stops is any indication and
if his ground troops can muster a caucus turnout he may fool many such as me.

It’s one thing to go to the polls, walk in and vote or do it during early voting and
go on your way. We’ll see.

Trump’s strength is his ability to vet people and assemble a highly competent staff- that’s what he mastered in the business world. That’s what will win Iowa for him.

The press focuses on his bombast and calculated public persona. That’s the shiny object that they focus on. The real story is what he’s doing behind the scenes.

Good observation. I don’t know if it was national news, but in the late 1980s or early 1990s (I forget), he lost a handful of his top executives in a helicopter accident. He really felt it. People like that are not easy to replace.

I figured that the evangelical vote in Iowa would go against him, and maybe it will. But with the same guy who ran the Huckabee and Santorum victories now running Trump’s campaign he could well win Iowa.

As with all things like this it comes down to turnout. Who can and who can’t get their
supporters to the polls. The thing about this Iowa caucus process is it begins Feb. 1, 2016
and doesn’t finish with the actual process until just before the National convention.

I think the Iowa contests are going to surprise a lot of people. Folks I’ve talked to seem to think that Trump’s entire campaign is just the rallies he’s conducting. I always maintain that Trump is so successful because he has a knack of hiring the right people and staffing all his top positions with the best people available. I believe that the same is true with his campaign. He’s probably the best organized candidate in the field.

My dad having been an Army officer I learned to appreciate the value of a good General Staff. Trump appears to have assembled a very good one that he can trust implicitly.

If he wins the big prize Trump needs to keep in mind an aphorism of the first Reagan administration- ‘personnel is policy’. Who he chooses to work for him will greatly determine the outcome of his administration. A VP who shares his goals and not one selected for some idea of balance will be important as well.

I want Trump to win out. The faster he gets the nod, the faster the GOPe will have to concede, and the faster we can prepare for Hillary and her legion of dead & illegal voters.

He had some childish comments about Cruz and his religion as well as the stupid statement evangelicals don’t come from Cuba.

I would like to ask Trump how many times in the last year did he attend church services. And of course, what is his favorite verse in the Bible and not let him weasel out with his last answer.

If he is going to pander to Christians he better be prepared.

Trump first spoke to Laudner last December because he goes into every contest well prepared.

Right on, I read an article many months ago about how Trump called Laudner one December night. Laudner saw the name on his phone and thought it was a joke. He said, "but the guy on the other end did sound like it could be Trump." Laudner was totally taken back to find out it was Trump and after talking just a few minutes realized Trump was serious.

Trump was playing the media for the fools they are. They didn't believe he was going to run, so were totally shocked.

Then thinking he wouldn't get much support and drop out quickly. Saying he was only doing this stunt to further his brand

That is why I pay no attention to the media on their Trump prognostications. And anyone good at analysis can see that Trump will easily beat Hillary and cause a conservative landslide in DC and state capitals.

Trumps timing is proving to be impeccable.

You and I are in lockstep agreement. Trump needs to wrap this up and get onto the big stage.
