Oooh, not sure I’d heard that version, will try that later. Have always like Seatrain (and Blues Project, which is one of the roots of that band).

Hey, there’s no point including Barstow without Needles.

I'm afraid Bobby Troup would disagree...

Are they sure it is optimal? The Travelling Salesman problem is well known in Computer Science because it is one of the simpler examples of an NP-hard computational problem.

The complexity increases exponentially, and when you throw in hundreds or thousands of possible roads, finding a truly optimal solution might take an awful lot of time.

Wow, I’m right in the middle in St. Louis, guess it would take 226 hrs. from my house.

It takes 113 hours ONLY if you live at one end of the route of the other end of the route.

I live near Sacramento. I would start at the California/Oregon border. Have no desire to visit commie Washington.

But then, after I get to Vermont, I see another 48 hours to get back home.

Call it a round 165 hours total...

To me, this kind of short cut is not really driving through the 48 states. Maybe technically you can claim that you drove through 48 states when all you did was touch the border of most of them.

I suppose I could also rent a motel room in Denver and say I joined the Mile High club, but that wouldn’t be quite in the spirit.

“I live near Sacramento...Have no desire to visit commie Washington.”

Is that for fear of overexposure? ;)
