I recall in about late April, possibly early May of 1975, the 3rd Squadron and equipment was loaded on C141’s at Hickam AFB waiting Prez Ford’s orders to go retake Ton Son Nhut. I believe they were to be the leading element of the 25th ID.
Needless to say, the orders never came and the troops went back to the barracks demoralized, only to watch on TV people climbing on to helicopters at the embassy to escape.
Selected 3/4 Cav aviation members were sent to Navy aircraft carriers to aid in retrieving ARVN helicopters fleeing Vietnam. Numerous UH’1’s were just shoved overboard.
With a victory under their belts, the American left has been on the roll ever since.
Say what?????
